That was the moment.
Right there in that split second, pointing the gun and hearing the police in the backdrop.
Background noises barely registering as the adrenalin burns up in her body, leaving her shaking.
Her strength is fleeting, and just then, in exactly this instant the memories come flooding.
The past months shooting past her inner eye, leaving her trembling and finally her body gives in.
The flashes come irregular, reminding her of what she was missing.
Teasing her about the past.
Questioning her motives.
Forcing her to confront facts she wants to forget.
Confusion taking her over.
The world was spinning. Why was it still turning?
She worked so hard.
She sacrificed herself to get here, to get to the truth, and yet the world wasn't showing respect.
Just one second.
Only one second the world was supposed to stop.
To come to a rest and give her time to catch up.
She could only watch.
Realizing that the world wouldn't stop, that the lies she told herself over and over were in fact that -
Lies.
Bittersweet words she kept repeating to make them true.
That everything would be back to normal.
She would get her life back. The live she always thought she wanted. The life that included the white picket fence and the dog, the popular boyfriend and the friends that loved her.
And there she was. She got what she wanted.
The truth.
And her life was the same.
She was the same.
Unable to force the world to stop. To pay respect to the moment.
If only for a second.
Did I mention I LoVe Feedback?
