Over the years, Derek had learned to stop hating Halloween. This year, for example, he'd taken Jack Hotchner out Trick-or-Treating. Seeing little Jack dressed as a skeleton walking next to Derek's huge mutt Clooney - who Jack had dressed as a ballerina - took some of the edge off Derek's feeling of being constantly creeped out by all the disguised folks. And tonight, he planned a little movie night for himself and a certain someone named Jordan.
None of the rest of the team knew they still hung out, but Derek liked it that way. He didn't care for them being all up in his business. This night was going to be just for them. He popped popcorn and covered it in melted butter and salt. That in combination with Dave's special spiked cider - something he coined Halloween Brew - would be delicious.
He met Jordan with a kiss and they curled up on his couch, to make room for Clooney, who was sprawled out there, too, his giant head resting in Jordan's lap.
"So, which first? The Goonies or…E.T. first?" Jordan questioned, studying Derek's selections for the evening. "Derek, neither one of these qualify as Halloween movies. I was thinking more of The Ring or The Exorcist or…I don't know…something actually scary?" Jordan teased.
Derek shrugged. "It's not Halloween anymore. So…"
"So, what?" she challenged. "We can't watch actual Halloween movies… Oh, wait, no… You don't think I can handle them, do you?" she asked, with a smirk. "Well, I have news for you-"
"It's not that," Derek denied, but lost whatever he was going to say because he was totally lost in Jordan's eyes. "It's not you, it's me," he managed. "I hate the whole thing. People in costume… Grown ass people coming to my house dressed up trying to Trick-or-Treat. It's creepy, all right?"
"All right," Jordan answered, and left it at that. After a minute's consideration, she spoke again. "To answer your question, definitely The Goonies first," she smiled. "Classic, right?"
"Yep," Derek nodded, leaning in to kiss Jordan. "Classic."
The End.
