SPLIT

Kaoru knew, that when she barged into the Third Music Room, their lives would change forever.

Ordinarily, it was just the two of them, him and Hikaru, and no one else, not even the Host king, can enter their world. It has always been, and always will be, until the entrance of one Haruhi Fujioka into their lives. And indeed, this turned their world upside-down, and cracks began to appear in their shell.

Kaoru knew, these past few days, that something has changed. He had realized it after discovering Hikaru's jealousy towards Haruhi's ex-classmate, that his twin had developed feelings for the girl, but just didn't know it yet. He had even arranged for them to go out on a date, which nearly became disastrous if not for Tamaki's intervention and Hikaru's realization of his stupid act.

And now this.

What is it with her anyway? True, he and Hikaru had always liked the same things and thought the same thoughts. But never, before, liked the same girl. Not that they have ever liked anyone before, other than each other. Always the more perceptive between the two of them, Kaoru knew now the extent of his feelings for Haruhi. The question is, should he tell her, or should he give way?

The answer presented itself.

"Hey guys, I'd just go out and buy a few drinks. There's a vending machine right around here. What would you like?" Haruhi declared, obviously looking for an excuse to get away from the Host Club.

"I'll go with you," Kaoru volunteered, and Haruhi took their orders.

Now, as they walked toward the said vending machine, Kaoru was pondering about the question in question. Should he tell her, or ask her a trick question first?

Apparently, the latter won out as they reached the machine.

"Let me pick out mine and Hikaru's drinks," Kaoru said, punching the corresponding buttons and dropping the money.

"You know, it's kind of funny how you and Hikaru like the same things," Haruhi commented in her usual nonchalant way, as she selected the rest's drinks.

His heart pounded. The opportunity has come, Kaoru thought.

"You're right. Um...do you mind if I ask you something?"

"Alright."

"You know, there's this thing that Hikaru and I like. As in, both of us like it so much. What should we do?"

Kaoru held his breath, awaiting her answer.

"Well...I think the best solution is...you guys can simply share it," Haruhi replies. Kaoru's heart sank; but then again, would he expect anything different from Haruhi Fujioka?

"Let's go back," she says, and marches on.

Kaoru sighs, watching her retreating back.

"But what if...it's something we can't share?" he whispers. It's a big problem. A big problem indeed.

Quickly, he followed Haruhi back to the room, where Hikaru immediately stood up to meet him.

"Hey, Hikaru! This one has almond flavor! Wonder what it tastes like? Let's try it!" Kaoru babbled enthusiastically at his twin brother.

As Kaoru gave Hikaru his drink, the dilemma was temporarily forgotten. For now. However, he knew, deep inside, that sooner or later, both of them would have to confront it.

And when the time comes, then...he'll see whether he can share...or not.
