Give me a Reason
Give me a reason to be thankful and I will –
not an illusion, but a fact,
and the hero sweeping in to save the day
is a dream I won't accept.
Give me a reason to be gracious and I will –
and feeble pleas of partnership, companionship,
friendship – they're all for fools.
Give me a reason not to fight and I won't –
but don't say you'll protect me: I don't need you
to protect me; I can do that on my own
and get stronger on my own.
But don't give me a reason to say sorry
because I won't.
