How did this happen?
How did this happen Serifina thought as she looked out of the cage bars. A lazy guard was sleeping on the job, I could escape and he wouldn't know until he woke up she thought. But there was two flaws in her plan. Number one: she didn't know when the guard would wake up and number two: How did she escape?
Well I suppose you want to know why Serifina was in the position she was in. Well I'll tell you why. You might think that she was some kind of outlaw or a criminal but that wasn't the case at all. She was actually a princess. Well why is she in prison you may ask. She was in prison because her father had picked a fight with the King of the next city. A great war started and the Kings guards stormed the castle and took Serifina as a hostage. They refused to give Serifina up until the King had done all of their demands, and believe me the demands weren't as simple as buy me a can of coke. The demands included having to catch one of every bird in the world, and by world I don't mean in the castle grounds.
She slumped down on her bed of hay, I'll be in here until the day I die she thought as she looked around for a way to escape. The guard snorted in his sleep, like he was laughing along with a joke. Serifina wasn't really in the mood to laugh but she attempted to make herself laugh in order to pass the time. She noticed that the keys to her cell were what the guard thought was just out of arms reach, but what they didn't know was that she had particularly long arms. She made a grab for the keys but missed, she tried again, she had got them.She stuck her arm through the bar of the cage, twisted in and turned the key in the lock.
It clicked. Yes she thought. She walked towards the door but she didn't count on a guard being there. I'm not wrecking my only chance of freedom she thought. She shoved past the guard and started to run.
