Warning: slash, R/S, don't like don't read.
Summary: Remus doesn't forgive, Sirius doesn't forget. Fate is playing with them tonight.
A/N: this is another of my what-if stories. I mean it might not be possible, but hey, it's not impossible, ne? Set during the third book before Remus find out Sirius is innocent. Read and enjoy.
Disclaimer: not mine. I just like to play with them. Dance my puppets, dance!
The End of Forever
Too many shadows have crossed your path before, ending dreams, blocking out wishes. These days you are numbly waiting, waiting for his return, waiting for the end of forever. Right now you are holding on to an obscure dream, never understanding what it means, never being able to see beneath it. He visited you few weeks back
The moon was bleeding that night.
Clouds were drifting in and out of view, pink petals of a lonely cherry tree flying across the garden. The air was warm but winds were blowing cold, the stars shone more bright than ever. You never believed in omens or fate or anything like that but something about the atmosphere was different. A shadow crept up to the door and the wind cried her warning through the half open window. A dozen candles and torches flickered in the sudden gush of air.
Ignoring the warnings that your heart told you, you approached the hall. You didn't dare wish, didn't dare expect in fear of being disappointed later. The door swung open in and gust of cold air came rushing in putting out a few candles.
The corners of his lips are tilting upwards to the beginning of a smile. You stare at him and he stares back at you, neither of you moving, neither wanting to disturb the air in this moment
You've hoped for him to come ever since he escaped from hell, secretly, guiltily, waiting for him. Now he's returned. The moon has carried him back into your arms, but you don't know what to do.
"It's me" he says quietly. "It's Sirius. Let me in. I've come back."
For a moment you don't want to believe in reality, you just want to forget. Forget the truth; forget the past, throw away reality and everything like it. But sometimes the mind ignores the heart.
"What do you want?" you whisper. Your voice is hoarse from the full moon a few nights back, but it's still full of hate of a lost past from long ago. "What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here."
"Let me stay the night," he whispers. His voice is also crumpled from too many nightmares reawakened in the past. "I've no where else to go."
You're frozen to the spot, wand held loosely in your hand never taking your gaze off the man in front of you. The eyes, Merlin the eyes, those pair of twin sapphire pools you lost yourself in so many years before are now filled with torment and suffering.
But somewhere in the back of your mind something comes crashing back. A piece of puzzle from a long lost past that's reality.
You never forgave him for betraying Lily and James.
Your hand stiffened on the door before turning your gaze away. "Go" you told him. "I've nothing to do with you anymore."
The door slams shut, and your heart shatters into pieces. Your knees give way, tears stroll their way down your cheeks.
Clouds were drifting in and out of view, pink petals of a lonely cherry tree flying across the garden. The air was warm but winds were blowing cold, the stars shone more bright than ever.
The moon was bleeding that night.
