Sirius Black was flying. He was soaring, high above the ground, on the back of a hippogriff named Buckbeak. He had just been rescued by his godson, Harry Potter, and Harry's friend, Hermione. He could still see Hogwarts Castle behind him if he squinted. He didn't know where he was going yet, he just knew he had to get away. If he was caught, he'd be sent back to Azkaban, or worse, be given the dementor's kiss. He was not in the mood to have his soul sucked out of his mouth, thank you very much!

They flew for what felt like the whole night until finally, they reached the ocean. Sirius told Buckbeak to stop so that they could rest. He laid down on the sand of the beach and fell asleep.

Sirius awoke to the feeling that he was being watched. He just couldn't figure out why. He didn't see anything nearby except for the still sleeping Buckbeak. He was about to roll over and sleep a little longer when he heard a noise from the undergrowth a few feet away. He peered through some leaves and saw a pair of eyes looking at him. It was all he could see - the rest of the creature was in shadow. He wasn't sure, but he thought that if the creature was going to hurt him it would have done so already.

"Don't worry, little guy, I'm not going to hurt you," he coaxed. Slowly, the little thing began to come out of its hiding place. Finally, Sirius could tell what it was. It was a baby owl. It looked to young to know how to fly. Sirius decided he would keep it. Maybe it had fallen out of his best. He could teach it to fly and send it to Ron Weasley, since he had been responsible for Ron losing his pet.

Sirius heard a noise from behind him, startling him out of his thoughts. He turned and saw Buckbeak shaking his head, waking himself up.

"Morning mate. Ready to get going?" Sirius said. Buckbeak nodded (or as close to a nod as a Hippogriff can get). Sirius put the little owl in his pocket and climbed onto Buckbeak's back. They took off and started flying parallel to the beach.
