Hey! So it's me Clovestar! I'm doing a story on Little House on the Prairie , one of my favorite shows. I've also read the books, but I prefer the show. So my story is about Jenny as an adult. Though they probably wouldn't be in pioneer times i'm still putting it as they are for fun. Enjoy!
"Royal! What in gods name are you doing?!" Jenny called up to her six-year old son who was SUPPOSED to be getting dressed, who instead was taking forever, and causing a racket.
"Hang on Ma! I'm almost finished!" He called back to her, Jenny and her husband Jeb had moved into the Carters old house. John and Sarah Carter had moved to a different house, closer to town. There was another unsettling crash and a small scruffy raven haired boy flung himself down the ladder. His eight-year old sister Elizabeth gave him a tight eye roll and drummed her foot against the floor. 1-year old Daisy began wailing and Jenny sighed trotting into the corner of the small house and removed a very sad, blonde haired baby from her crib.
Jenny made mental notes of the situation and glanced from child to child. Finally she set four bowels of oatmeal on the table and placed Daisy in her seat, both Elizabeth and Royal sat as well glaring daggers at each other. Daisy seemed more interested in how much oatmeal she could spill over herself instead of how much she could eat.
"I'm home!" Jeb Carter flung the door open and Elizabeth and Royal were instantly on their feet, breakfast forgotten while Daisy took to squealing "Da-da!" Jenny stood up once the children were seated and flung her arms around him. "Took you long enough," she murmured. Jeb laughed and pulled her into a kiss. Then he turned to Elizabeth and Royal, "You two didn't cause any trouble for Ma did you?" He asked and both kids shook their heads.
"C'mon Elizabeth! We'll be late!" Royal called and they rushed out of the door. "Close it behind you!" Jenny yelled but she was either not heard or ignored, and the door stayed hanging open. Jeb rushed forward and closed it shaking his head and laughing at the same time. "You were a good girl for momma weren't you?" He asked tickling Daisy. "You're always a little angel!" He cooed causing Jenny to roll her eyes. "If she's such an angel then you can watch her while I sell the eggs." She said. Jeb looked shocked for a moment then shook it off, "Easy-peasy right Days?" He asked. Daisy picked that exact moment to dump the remainders of her oatmeal in the floor.
Jenny smiled and picked up the egg basket, "Also at least try to keep Tiger away from the chickens, he scares them." She advised, the black and white wiry coated dog looked up from his sleeping spot under the table then lay his head back down. Jenny walked out of the the house, actually closing the door and began making the walk to town.
Once she reached the middle she heard children playing and laughing and glanced at the school house, waving to Royal who had climbed an old walnut tree and was shouting her name. Jenny then turned and walked into Olesons Mercantile. She grimaced as she heard Nancy's high pitched voice ask, "Hello how may I help you!" Jenny strode forward and lay the basket on the counter. Nancy clucked in disapproval, "Oh...The eggs are quite small today..." Willy Oleson came out of the store room, his two year old daughter Chloe clutching his hand. "Honestly Nancy! Good day to you Misses Carter!" He said dipping his head then turning to Nancy who sighed, and payed full price.
Jenny left and began the long walk home.
I know it's kinda short, the next chapter will be longer and out next week!
