"Have you been training for long?"
"Yeah. My parents thinks it's weird."
"Not me. By the way, I'm Ulrich. You-you-you're Yuri, right?"
"It's Yumi."
"Here, a little birthday gift."
"Hm...Thanks, Ulrich. That's very sweet."
"And don't forget, Yumi and I are just good friends."
"Are you sure?"
"Well...Actually I'm not sure at all."
"I guess you thought maybe if we had a fight, I'd think about you all the time. You don't need that to get my attention. Goodnight."
It almost felt like a dream.
It almost felt like a dream.
"Yumi...Yumi, Yumi, please stay awake...Please." Ulrich whispered into her ear desperately. He frantically pushed his jacket against the wound on her stomach and found his fingers trembling as he watched the blood seep through the green fabric.
"Ul...rich." Yumi choked out. Blood trailed from her mouth and slid down to her neck and shoulders. Her tongue tasted of blood when she coughed and she could taste the decay and bile of her intestines. She was dying...And she knew it.
"I love you, Ulrich...Tell the others I love them too." She whimpered. "Please, tell my family too. Tell them not to cry and you guys shouldn't either. I'm just another casualty in this battle to save the word...You can't let Xana win...I-" She stopped herself as his body shook in fear.
"Don't say that...Just stop talking, Yumi! Tell them yourself, you will see them, you are not going to die." Ulrich yelled, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. He tried his hardest to convince an unseen presence that everything was going to be alright. "You won't die! You can't die...Please, Odd and Aelita are probably deactivating the tower at this very moment. Just hold on, Jeremie will launch a return to the past and-" He trailed off as he witnessed her beautiful black eyes start to fade into a cloudy grey.
She was lying on his lap and his arms were wrapped around her tightly, possessively. He could not control his tears as he watched his best friend, his partner in crime, and his soul mate die in front of his eyes.
"Yumi..." He pleaded for the last time. "Please...You can't leave me in a world without you." He begged. In her last moments, she brought as tender hand to his face and cupped his cheek. It was an invitation to a goodbye kiss.
Ulrich shivered at her request, but found himself obligated to fulfill her last wishes. He pressed his lips gently against hers. He placed all of his emotions into one kiss- his passion, his desperation, his anger, his sadness...His love. And she accepted it all as she clutched her fingers against his shirt.
As he pulled back, her final breath slipped through her lips. He could taste her blood and his clothing was stained a disgusting but beautiful shade of red.
He pressed his head to the crook of her neck and cried.
"It's been so great...I just don't want it to end."
"There will be plenty of other good times, even without Lyoko."
"Promise?"
"I swear."
"I-I love you too." He whispered as Jeremie launched the return to the past...He was much too late.
