The sound of dripping filled the cave. Towards the back, there was a small flicker of light.

An older teen lay unconscious next to a miniscule fire. The formally white hack he wore over a white shirt was torn and covered in blood. Stained bandages could be seen coiled around various parts of his body. His shoulder length, unruly hair was matted with dried blood and slick with sweat. His chapped lips moved as he relived the torture that he had endured for so long.

The fire started to burn out. A young girl picked up a piece of wood and shoved it into the fire, ignoring the light burning on her fingertips. Similar to her compainion, she also had bandages on her hands and arms, but these were not bloody. Her simple black tank top and dark cargo pants had both blood and mud on them, She had pulled her black hair away from her face, so that she could help the young man as much as she could without distraction.

The young man let out a whisper of a groan, his broken ribs finally making their painful appearance. The girl moved beside him.

"Hey, you awake?" she whispered, brushing the hair away from his eyes.

His eyes snapped open at the sound of her voice, and her tried to move away from her in fear. The girl held him close before he could injure himself further.

"Hey, calm down!" she said. "Let's not add to your injuries."

Ice blue eyes focused on brown. "Who are you and where am I," he said, his voice barely above a whisper from lack of use, his eyes darting around.

She sighed. "We're at the seventeenth entrance to the Shuggazoom Knights Kingdom. My name is Lieutenant Kiy Nicol, second-in-command of the fourth section of the elemental knights."

He looked at her with blank eyes.

"Shit," she murmured under her breath. Raising her voice to a whisper, she said, "It's too dangerous to say anymore at this time. Besides, you need to rest."

Involuntarily, his eyes slowly slid shut, his breathing evened out, and he slipped into a healing sleep.

Kiy let out a sigh in relief. She looked up into the shadows of the cave, a smile paying across the grim look upon her face. "I know you're there, Yukoto."

The shadows changed shape slowly, and soon a boy, about the same age as Kiy, stood leaning against the wall.

"Damn it, Kiy. I told you to wait for me before you went after hem," he growled, moving to drop next to Kiy.

"He was in pain, Yukoto. I had permission to go in if I felt I could save him from that pain."

He bit his lip, then nodded to himself. "Alright. I'll yell at you later. Let's get him home."

Kiy glared at Yukoto. "His home is gone, 'Koto. We can only take him to ours.

Hours later would find Chiro in Jinmay's arms, both crying with happiness. Kiy and Yukoto looked on from outside the medical tent, guarding them from the questions that were sure to come.

"Nicol," a voice from inside called. Jinmay.

"Yes ma'am?" she said, unwilling to wake the boy – no, man – in her arms.

"Good job."

Kiy smiled.

I am still not happy with this, damn it.
