Summary: "I'll stay a bit longer."
Sunny sat up from Veils bed awoken from his sleep. It was around this time he usually woke up to head back to the fort. He couldn't stay too long or Quinn might wonder where his regent kept going every few nights. He'd stay for a few hours, eating whatever food Veil made for him, learning how to read, make love to her, sleep and then wake up when the night was silent and the Badlands was almost peaceful.
Veil had become accustomed with it and had no problem with his routine. There was nothing they could do otherwise. It wasn't like they could be seen together. Love was forbidden for clippers. Visiting Veil at night was the only way for Sunny to spend time with her.
He kept his visits short and irregular. Sometimes he's visit every three days for only an hour or five hours. He didn't intend to become attached to Veil. Sunny didn't think their relationship would last long. He didn't even intend for it to become a relationship but time proved that wrong. The more time he spent with her the more he fell in love her. He tried to stop himself because he knew his love for Veil could get her killed. He tried to visit her less but he kept finding himself coming back. In the end, he figured as long as Quinn didn't find out it would be okay. If it came down to it Sunny swore on his life, he would protect her if Quinn were to ever find out.
He continued to visit Veil every few nights. As usual he liked to keep his visits short but something changed. When Veil would sometime wake up and see Sunny still beside her, she would wake him up and let him know it was getting late.
Sunny however found himself repeating the words "I'll stay a little longer."
It was as if he never wanted to leave the comfort of having Veil beside him. With her Sunny could almost forget what he was in the Badlands. A killing machine. A clipper. A deadly regent feared by all. He could sleep peacefully not being reminded of the people he killed. Of the blood on his sword.
He fell in love with Veil. Fell in love with being around her so much each night he spent with her the hours he stayed with her started to increase to a point he almost returned to the fort in the morning.
It was a close call and luckily Quinn wasn't too suspicious of it but Sunny knew it was something that could never happen again. He needed to watch how long he stayed with her no matter if he didn't want to leave. He couldn't continue to stay a little longer.
Sunny could only dream at night as he laid next to Veil, about a time when he could stay with her and never have to leave.
