Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of How to train your dragon, Boden or the song never knew I needed, by Ne Yo
"where is he?" Astrid thought, sitting on Hiccup's bed. "he should be back from picking up his siblings from their playdates." She thought, getting up to pace the floor of her friend's room. She didn't like to admit it, but being away from Hiccup made her anxious. It was like someone was squeezing on her lungs when he was away and she couldn't breathe until he was near her. "not like I'll tell him these things.' She thought shaking her head. "he doesn't feel the same way." Astrid walked over to hiccup's CD player and hit put on the radio.
For the way, you change my plans
For being the perfect distraction
For the way, you took the idea that I have
Of everything that I wanted to have
And made me see there was something missing,
Oh ya
"that sounds a lot like Hiccup," she thought "he changed my plans a lot. I thought I'd never find someone who loved me for me, and planned to stay single my whole life. But I'm not sure if that's what I want any more."
For the ending of my first begin
And for the rare and unexpected friend
For the way you're something that I'd never choose
But at the same time something I don't want to loose
And never want to be without you again
"Hiccup definitely wouldn't have been someone I would've chose when I first met him. When I first met, him he was scrawny, and a nerd. He was the last person I wanted in my life." "And now?" A soft voice asked in her mind. "now I would do anything to make sure he is safe, for my sake and his families sake. Still…I couldn't survive without him. He's…he's my happiness." Suddenly Hiccup walked into his room startling Astrid from her thoughts.
My accidental happily ever after
The way you smile and how you comfort me
With your laughter
"oh Astrid, hi. I didn't know you were here. Have you been waiting long?" hiccup asked with a smile.
"god his smile is gorgeous." She thought. "Not really" she replied blushing slightly at his thoughts.
"Do you want to have dinner with my family before you go home?" he asked.
I must admit you were not a part of my book
But now if you open it up and take a look
You're the beginning and the end of every chapter.
"sure, Hiccup anything you want." She said walking towards him.
"Astrid why are you listening to the radio?" he asked curiously.
"I like this song…it rings true to me." She said softly, tucking a strand of hair behind Hiccup's ear.
Hiccup blushed, slightly at her gesture. It was so innocent yet intimate. Hiccup's stomach filled with butterflies as he asked, "why is it true to you?"
You're the best thing I never knew I needed
So, when you were here I had no idea
"it makes me think of you." Astrid replied, watching Hiccup's eyes widen with surprise.
You're the best thing I never knew I needed
So now it's so clear, I need you here always
"this entire song is true to me Hiccup. You really are the best thing I never knew I needed. I thought I was ok alone but I wasn't; I was missing someone. And now I know it's you. I need you in my life, by my side always.
"Astrid." Hiccup said, his eyes shining with emotion. He kissed her softly on the lips, surprising her for a second, before she kissed him back.
"Hiccup, dinner's ready." Boden yelled, causing the couple to jump apart.
"Come on, let's go." Hiccup said, grabbing Astrid's hand, and leading her to the door, both still blushing.
Now it's so clear, I need you here always.
A.N. this takes place in the fictional city of Dragon city that my friend Kelsey came up with.
