"Do you hate me?"
Hermione tried to escape his firm grasp on her wrist as she tried to walk away from the young man.
"Why do I even ask if I already know the answer..." The man whispered this with a frown. He put his head down. He felt butterflies in his stomach because he was holding the arm of someone he desperately loved.
"Please say something. Anything," he mumbled, staring into her beautiful eyes.
"Fine. I'll talk if you let go of me," Hermione coldly said.
Hesitantly, he let go of her wrist and allowed her freedom, praying she wouldn't leave him. She took a deep breath, carefully planning her words before she spoke. She was a genius, but with boys she was never wise. The hallway was quiet as everybody was in the Great Hall enjoying the feast. They were alone and the tall man knew that this might be the only time he could talk to her. He could have sworn that she could hear his heart race a million miles a minute. He cherished every word her beautiful lips formed, no matter how cold or cruel they were.
She spoke.
"I feel sorry for you. Stuck in jealousy of others. You can't even see the good in yourself because no one's ever even told you how great you can be. You try so hard to make up for your insecurities by forging a mask of confidence and power. You guard your heard because it's been broken so many times. Since our first year, you wanted to do great things but they never seem to work out right. It's sad that you don't even know who you are inside because you try to be so many things for other people that you always have to please. I just feel sorry for you. There is nothing that I blame you for," she finished shyly smiling. His eyes stared down at her intently. He opened his mouth to speak but she spoke once more.
"One day you'll find someone that you'll love and she'll love you too. But, for now, both of us are just confused and as much as I'd like to stay around, I don't really love y-".
He captured her lips with his own as she stood there, in shock but full of happiness and desire. He pulled away and looked her in the eye. When he spoke, his voice cracked weakly and full of pain.
"Please. Don't tell me that. I mean, at least I can say that I tried." He smiled weakly. "I have to go."
As he walked way, Hermione couldn't forget about him. As he turned the corner and disappeared down the hallway, her voice was barely above a whisper as she said the only words she could say:
"Goodbye, Draco."
