Author's Announcements:
Hello, all. It has been about two years since I last published my work on Fanfiction.

I know this concept has been shredded and over-used, but this is my version of Shepard meeting Ashley on Horizon. A bit Alternate Universe, I guess.

Thank you for reading.

.push.

Trembling. Lips on fire, acid in her throat.

She took a step towards him, hand extended, silently begging him to reach out to her.

Her lips formed his name and before she could utter a syllable, his cold glare caught her voice in her throat.

Her hazel eyes met his apprehensive gaze and she immediately looked at the ground.

Apologies were useless at this point in time.

She dropped her hand.

He stood, blindingly beautiful, perfect and alive, six feet away from her.

The mist of her failure was fresh and like a new gunshot wound, infectious and deadly.

Tears filled her eyes as she tried to form the words in her head.

Words that would only fall to the ground as he rejected any excuse she gave him.

Her eyes glanced at the ground, her hand wrapped around her abdomen.

Life kicked back at her touch.

"I know you're…in shock…"

Shepard laughed, "Shock doesn't touch this."

"You were…dead," she choked on the word, "What…did you expect me to do?"

His breath caught in his throat and he glared at her as an unemotional response departed his lips, "You didn't know I was dead. The Alliance claimed I was missing in action, not dead. And I come back to…" he looked at her stomach and spat the last word, "…this."

Ashley narrowed her eyes and pointed a finger at him, "Don't act like I betrayed you. You're working for Cerberus now." She snorted and crossed her arms, "You're not exactly a saint, either, Shepard."

He didn't speak a word. His gaze grew colder.

"I will always be an Alliance solider," she straightened herself; "It's in my blood. But you betrayed the Alliance. You betrayed me."

"Damn it, Ashley. You know me. You know I'd only do this for the right reason." He stated his case clearly and diplomatically, but she wouldn't listen.

She growled, "Why didn't you try to contact me?"

Shepard replied sarcastically, "Well, maybe it's because I was in a fucking coma for two years and I've only been awake for a couple of days. Cerberus brought me back."

Coma?

Ashley took a deep breath.

"I have to report to the Citadel. Take care, Shepard."

"Who's is it, Ashley?"

She touched her stomach, "His name is James." Her brown eyes laughed, "I'll name him Shepard."

With the brokenness hanging in the air, she turned around and walked away.

Shepard scoffed, his eyes saturated with sorrow.

"Send the shuttle," he glanced at his lost love and felt the numbness creep through his veins.
