Carrie and Larry are 7 years old.

Carrie waited impatiently on the other side of the door.

"Are you done yet, Larry?" She asked, tapping her foot. "I finished a whole five minutes ago!"

"Almost, Care!" Larry said. After a few more minutes, Larry came out of the bathroom with a cape, fake fangs, and powdered, pale skin.

"Pfft, finally!" Carrie said, but Larry didn't pay attention to her words. He could only stare at her, and how cute she looked in her cat costume. She had on a black, long sleeved shirt, black jeans, black boots, black gloves, black ears, and black face paint on her nose and on her cheeks to make whiskers. And who could forget the little black tail hanging behind? Larry thought she looked adorable.

"Wow, Care. Your costume looks…really good on you…" He said, still unable to take his eyes off of her. She looked at him and blushed a bit.

"Oh, uh, well…you're looks pretty great, too." She said.

"Thanks…" He said awkwardly. They stayed silent until Carrie rolled her eyes and grabbed his hand.

"C'mon! We're gonna be late for candy time!" She said. They grabbed their pillow cases and went out, beginning their night of trick-or-treating fun. They went from house to house, getting a lot of candy along the way. Soon, their pillow cases were already half-filled. They high fived each other, feeling pretty accomplished.

They continued trick-or-treating until they came to this big house. It had a lot of creepy decorations. There were huge spiders all around, fake dead bodies hanging from the tree, scary noises coming from inside the house, and a scarecrow sitting on one of the porch chairs with a psychotic grin painted on its face. Carrie looked at the house in awe.

"Woah, they really went all out, huh?" She asked the boy next to her. He didn't answer, though. He was shaking as he looked at the house and its decorations. "Larry?"

"C-carrie? I d-don't think we sh-should go to this h-house…" He said, his voice trembling.

"Oh, come on! Don't be a wuss!" She said, lightly punching his arm. He held his arm and looked at the ground, still shaking. Carrie's eyes widened. "Woah, you really are scared, huh?" She asked him softly. He nodded slowly, looking at her through the hair cascading over his eyes. She sighed and smiled at him kindly. His eyes then widened when he felt something grab his hand. I looked down and saw Carrie's hand holding his tightly. He looked at her. "It's okay, Larry. You won't have to go alone. I'll be right by your side." She said. Larry blushed and smiled. "You ready, now?" She asked.

"Y-yeah. I think so." Larry said, nodding. And so, they walked confidently up to the house, hand in hand, and Larry didn't feel the least bit scared knowing that his best friend was by his side, and always would be, no matter how many scary things life threw his way.
