This has been posted on Tumblr. Now I want to see what FF has to say.
It was a dark, stormy sort of night and they'd been staying in a motel room for three days. Dean had just settled down to sleep when he'd been woken by a sudden squeak and then muffled sobbing. Dean scrambled quickly out of bed and felt his way towards Sam's, which was on the other side of the room. "Sammy?" Dean whispered, trying not to wake John, who hadn't gotten any proper sleep in over two weeks. "Sammy, what's wrong?"
Sam launched himself at his brother, hugging him so tightly Dean feels like he's going to suffocate. 'Had a nightmare." said Sam, in a cracked, hollow sort of voice. "We were home, an' I was all alone, an' I went to go find you, 'cause I was scared of being all alone, an' when I foun' you, in your room… you were gone…" Sam started crying all over again.
Dean climbed up onto Sam's bed and crushed his younger brother in a hug, trying to reassure hm. "Hey, Sammy. Hey. You know what? I'm still here. And I am never, ever going to leave you. Not without a fight." Sam sniffled quietly, so Dean said, "Would it make you feel better if I slept with you? That way, if you have another nightmare, you'll wake up and I'll be right here."
Sam nodded and Dean fell back, still holding his younger brother close to his chest. Sam still hadn't calmed down so Dean, without really thinking, started quietly singing.
Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
Sam was immediately quieter, his crying stopping, his body beginning to fall back into the rhythm of sleep. Dean knew it wouldn't feel right to leave the song unfinished, so he continued.
Hey Jude don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Dean was properly crying, silent tears tracing white trails down his dirty cheeks, but he continued anyway.
Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you
Hey Jude you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
Dean could barely gasp out the last lines of the song.
Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better
Dean, still crying silently, leaned down to press a gentle kiss to the top of his sleeping brother's head. "I love you, Sammy." He said. "I promise that I will never let anything happen to you. Ever."
Settling down for sleep, he didn't realize his dad had been awake the whole time, had heard every word to the song, and was silently crying at the sound of Dean's voice, and the sight of his sons curled together.
Please review, please? It would make my day!
