Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach, or any of the Bleach characters used in this fic. They all belong to Tite Kubo: the genius behind the captivating manga that started it all. I only own any of my original characters that I choose to include, as well as any of my own original plot ideas.

If Only...

Prompt: Do you remember me...?

A/N: I'm not sure what to say about this... It's just a little piece I wrote up on the spot, so... Enjoy.

Confusion had set in, distorting reality and casting its wicked spell upon him. The world seemed to be losing all sense, swiftly changing into a blur of his most useless memories. And, in each vision, it was always the same eyes staring into his. They were almost empty, lacking emotion while, all at once, sending him the awkward sensation of warmth and peace of mind. How such visions could convey these feelings was entirely beyond him, for they had only met once.

But once, it seemed, was more than enough.

Everything had suddenly become about her. He would see her face, often replacing the faces of his classmates. A frightening, yet welcome, sight. And yet, he continued to tell himself that there was nothing between them. Theirs had only been a chance encounter, albeit under the worst of circumstances. Perhaps, if she hadn't been one of them he would have considered pursuing a casual relationship. Even if such a thing were possible, the chances of such a thing were slim to none.

If only she were free...

Disappointment flooded his veins, driving his blood to the boiling point. He'd been given a chance to free her, and he had failed. All thanks to his inability to think clearly, and to his damned loyalty to one long-since gone. Without those things in his way, it would have been far simpler to dispose of the bastard who had provoked him, and enslaved her.

Soft whispers, words of thanks, filled his head, shutting away all rational thought. Her reasons for thanking him were still unclear, and it angered him to remember her poor condition when he had departed for the Senzaikyu.

A bitter sigh left his parted lips as he stared blandly at the world around him.

"If only I could have brought you back with me..."

Not a big fan of Uryu, but I do like the UryuNemu pairing.
