Just A Dream

Prompt: Just A Dream- Nelly

Now you ain't around, baby, I can't think.
I shoulda put it down, shoulda got that ring.
Cause I can still feel it in the air.
See her pretty face,
Run my fingers through her hair.

Hotch was completely heartbroken. About two weeks before, he and Emily had broken up. Emily had gotten angry with Hotch after he had told her that he didn't want to get married for a while. Emily was tired of waiting and walked out of his apartment.

Wherever he went, he felt like he saw her, but she wasn't there. He just missed her. He could still feel her in his arms.

I just hope she knows that she's the only one I yearn for.
More and more, I miss her, when will I learn?
Didn't give her all my love.
I guess, now I got my payback.

Hotch wished he could go back to that day. He never wanted to lose Emily. He wished he could go back and tell her how he truly felt. He did want to get married, but he was just so nervous. And now he lost the one person who he actually loved.

He needed to get he back, but there was no way he could. She had already moved on.

She was so easy to love.
But wait, I guess that love wasn't enough.
I'm going through it every time that I'm alone.
And now I'm wishing she'd pick up the phone.
But she made a decision that she wanted to move on, cause I was wrong.

Hotch finally realized he didn't need to be nervous. Emily had loved him, but now he let that all go. All he truly needed was her love and he didn't realize he already had that.

He picked up his phone and tried to call her. He was sent straight to voice mail. He was stupid and he lost the love of his life. She had moved on and forgotten about him.

I was thinking about her,
Thinking about me,
Thinking about us, what we gonna be.
Open my eyes, it was only just a dream.
So I travel back, down that road.
Will she come back?
No one knows.

Suddenly, Hotch opened his eyes and realized he was in his bed. He had been dreaming. And then, he remembered.

Emily had died a year ago in a car accident. She had just left his house after they were in an argument. She was going through an intersection when a drunk driver suddenly came speeding directly into the driver side. According to the coroner's report, she had died on impact and felt no pain.

Everything had happened so quickly. He never got to tell her that he wanted to marry her. She was taken from him too soon. He wished they could have been planning their wedding. Instead, he had to plan her funeral. And now his heart was left empty and cold.

I realize it was only just a dream.
