DISCLAIMER: Nothing's changed in that department, believe me.
A/N: Quick little Remus/Tonks drabble I've had in my head for quite a while. Enjoy! Set in OotP, obviously, but before the actual book starts.
Grimmauld Place looked as dismal as ever despite the fact that its kitchen was packed with people. Stifling early-July heat pressed in on them even in the cool, dungeon-like depths of the basement kitchen.
Albus Dumbledore's voice broke through the intense chatter going on in all corners of the room.
"Please, settle, my dear friends!" he called. Many found seats. Some, such as Severus Snape and Mad-Eye Moody opted to stand.
Nymphadora Tonks, known to all who valued their necessary appendages as Tonks, ended up next to a man of vague familiarity. He was tall and handsome in a scholarly way, his sandy hair brushing his eyelashes, ones that framed startling amber eyes. He was dressed a bit shabbily, and he looked a bit weary, but Tonks found him rather endearing.
As the first meeting of the Order of the Phoenix was being reigned in and given some level of organization, Tonks leaned over to him and whispered, "Tonks," brightly.
He looked at her startled, as though he hadn't expected to be spoken to. "Oh. Er, pleased to meet you," he murmured, catching on. "Remus," he added quickly as the pretty Metamorphmagus looked at him expectantly.
Tonks grinned a little. "Did you hear there was supposed to be a werewolf here?" she said excitedly.
"Oh...well...yes, I did hear a rumor of that sort," he said with an odd sort of look as though he were torn between laughter and offence.
"Well?" she prompted with a mischievous grin.
"What?" he asked blankly.
Tonks sighed dramatically, absently screwing up her freckled button nose to change her hair from turquoise to a shocking bubblegum pink. "Who do you reckon it is?" she clarified, her smirk returning.
Remus scanned the room and met Dumbledore's smiling eyes. Old coote.
"Who do you reckon?" he countered, making his decision.
It was much more fun to watch her figure it out on her own.
