You Lie
Prompt: You Lie- The Band Perry
It ain't complicated.
Well, I've grown to hate it.
I never liked the taste of crow, but, baby, I ate it.
They tried to warn me.
They said that you were ornery.
So, don't bring me those big brown eyes and tell me that you're sorry.
You might as well throw gasoline on a fire.
Emily was so angry. She and Derek were supposed to be getting married the next month. But that wouldn't be happening now.
Everyone warned her that she could get hurt. Derek was known to be a heart breaker. She ignored everyone and started a relationship with Derek anyway.
With everything Derek did, he couldn't apologize at all.
The way you lie.
You lie like a priceless Persian rug on a rich man's floor.
You lie like a coon dog basking in the sunshine on my porch.
You lie like a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store.
It just comes way to natural to you.
The way you lie.
Derek had lied to her. He hurt her. He had cheated on her and she didn't want to believe it when she first found out. She was just so angry at him.
She figured he was just used to lying, It came natural to him.
That ain't my perfume.
I bet she had a curfew.
You told me that you were out with the boys and, baby, I believed you.
So, why you looking so nervous?
You know you're gonna deserve this.
I oughta kill you right now and do the whole wide world a service.
Two Weeks Earlier
Derek came in from being out with Hotch, Reid, and Rossi. Emily greeted him at the front door. She kissed him and then caught a sense of perfume coming off of him. She knew he had lied to her.
"Derek, where were you?"
"I went out with Reid, Hotch, and Rossi." Derek lied.
"You're lying. I can smell perfume on you. You were with a girl, weren't you?"
"What? Emily, what are you even saying?"
"You cheated on me. I'm done. Get out. I never want to see you again." Emily yelled.
"What? I didn't cheat on you."
"Whatever. Get out of my apartment."
"Fine." Derek said, walking out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
I'm gonna drive to the big, old, grimy river.
I'm gonna park my car in the middle of the mile-long bridge.
And then I'm gonna cry.
And then I'm gonna slip off the ring that you put on my finger.
Give it a big old fling and watch it sink.
There it's gonna lie.
Emily got in her car and drove. She drove to the empty bridge. She parked along the side and got out.
Emily walked over to the ledge and looked down. She slipped off her engagement ring. She threw it, as far as she could, into the water far below. It made a pleasant plop when it hit the water.
She got back in her car and drove home.
