Hymn of the Traveling Soldier

Gray skies you deliver again, oh cruel world.

Skies as these are as our lives in a story once foretold-

Thunder becomes the bellowing, echoing, pained cry,

Gray the old and withering, those about to die.

Sorrowful are these days of wander,

These days we shuffle from place to place.

Kind words are not found here, nor a pleasant face -

We are alone, us mortal men

Alone, and lost, until the very end

Forgetting hope, no need to bother.

Discovered something, I have

While trudging on this lonely, lifeless path

Death is inevitable on this road –

But in our tale, I fear, a chapter has been left untold.

Deliver upon us today and the next

Horrid skies for my such text

For I have found a truth, deep within my breast.

Thunder through the day and night-

For once I find gray-hues can be or right,

Hence in such clouds

I find my truth, one which makes all men proud.

Depressing, or so some shall say

Lightning, see I-

Now I can know, and I feel, why

Hope is not upon all completely lost

No, I find it is not irrelevant after all!

Hope does not have a set cost,

And even though it is merely a graceful air,

Hope, dear friend, shall always protect your fall.
