Prologue

I wondered when I would see my family again, if ever. What if I died on this tiny island? Wasn't anyone looking for us? Edward was famous, so didn't he have a huge search party?

We were doing our best to live, but it was difficult. I'd had some experience with living in the wilderness, and I loved reading about different plants, and I'd found some berries to eat. Day by day, however, I was losing hope.

Why should I keep going? Edward was being lazy, and it amazed me how little he cared about our survival? So, of course, I was doing all of the work.

He bragged, and his conversations were like broken CDs that just kept repeating the same things, impossible to keep quiet. Surely my mother and father were worried, as well as Jacob from back home. I'm sure that they were praying, but there wasn't much they could do.

It was ironic that I'd been going to Hawaii, and had instead ended up on a tiny deserted island without anywhere to go, or to do. Even worse, I was with a celebrity and if anyone ever found us I was almost certain that the blame would go on me if he got hurt. What was so hard about wanting to go to Hawaii?

I'd had enough money for college, so I wanted a break from working, but I had to stay strong. If I lost hope, we would die, and that couldn't happen. So far, we hadn't run into any violent animals, or starved. How much time had gone by? A week, two weeks? I tried to keep track of the days, but it was hard since I was working.

Hopefully it wasn't a false hope that I would one day be found.
