Entry for the „Do Your Worst" Competition – Fay Dunbar/Fred Weasley! Prompt: Divide

Entry for the „Unusual Ships Challenge" - Fay Dunbar/Fred Weasley

This is a bit shorter than I anticipated, but I hope you guys still like it! Leave me your opinion :)

The castle of Hogwarts and the school grounds were dipped in the light of the warm sun of a early summer, luring the students outside to spend their free time between and after lessons on the wide meadows and by the edge of the Black Lake.

Among these students were Fay Dunbar and Fred Weasley, who were seated under one of the blossoming oak trees that stood a bit further away from the main gathering area so they were undisturbed and also mostly unobserved by the other students.

It was a nice place for a first date and the perfect weather for a picnic, but the beautiful atmosphere could not change much about the fact that both Fay and Fred were extremely nervous about sitting together on that blanket.

Fay, who was generally a shy person, had barely said anything since they had met in the Entrance Hall to walk down to the lake together, Fred carrying a basket full of food that he had organised from the kitchens.

But also Fred found it hard to converse with her in his usual joking manner, talking about the weather instead, making them both even more uncomfortable because they felt like they were guilty for turning this date into a catastrophe.

„Ah... how... how are your Skieving Snackboxes going?", Fay asked after some minutes of uncomfortable silence in which both of them had eaten some of the delicious food they had brought, their gazes wandering over the Black Lake and everywhere, but not to the other one.

She tried to sound relaxed, but it was obvious that she was nearly stuttering out of nervousness.

„Very well... people are ripping them from our hands...", Fred answered shakily, a crooked smile on his lips.

„They are very amusing... When people use them while Umbridge is in the room, I mean."

„Thank you..."

They looked at each other for a short moment, but then their eyes both started to search for something else to stare at. It was just awkward, but on the other hand, they both felt like they did not wanted to be elsewhere in this moment, as if they still were in the right place right now, with the right person.

Fay reached for the last muffin that was lying on a small plate between the two of them and looked up in surprise as she felt something soft on her hand, only to find Fred returning her look with the same expression.

Their eyes focused on each others, Fred muttered:"You take it."

„No, you can have it, I don't need..."

„Oh, this is ridiculous."

Fred took the chocolate muffin and did divide it without further ado to share one half of it with her, smiling at her while he shoved the plate away to sit closer to her.

„Thank you."

Fay blushed heavily, but while her blood shot into her cheeks the corners of her mouth twitched up too.

„Now I can tell our kids later that I captured their moms heart by sharing a chocolate muffin with her", Fred grinned, finding back his courage to talk like himself and his heart made a delighted jump as Fay started to giggle, playing with a strand of her brown hair while looking at him, her eyes twinkling.

„I bet that will be a great story to listen to."
