Oh I missed them so much. I was sent to war three years ago, and I haven't been home since. The base kept getting attacked. Every time I barely got away alive. It was terrifying, not so much the thought of dying, but more the thought of never seeing my wife and kids again.
Yesterday the captain came by and told my fellow soldiers and me that we were going home. The war was winding down-finally-and he was letting us home early. I was so excited to see my family again. The others in the van with me were annoyed and amused at the same time with all of my bouncing, but I think they understood considering they all wore the same silly smiles as me.
Unfortunately, it will still be a week or so before I get home. I still haven't told my Bella that I was on my way back, but I want it to be a surprise. I know that she's disappointed that I've been too busy the past three years to visit for a few days, so she'll definitely be happy when I walk through the front door.
I decided to give her a call; I really needed to hear her voice. I was more anxious than usual, since I'll be seeing her within the next few days.
He called her on the road
From a lonely cold hotel room
Just to hear her say I love you one more time

Of the kids laughing in the background
He had to wipe away a tear from his eye
A little voice came on the phone
And said "Daddy when you coming home"
He said the first thing that came to his mind
I called home and spoke to my Bella for a couple of minutes, until I heard my kids giggling and yelling in the background. My eyes teared up thinking of how much I missed them. My little boy came onto the phone and asked me when I was coming home. I wasn't going to tell him that I was on the way as we spoke, so I instead I said the first thing I could think of.

My Bella sounded so sad, not having me home with her. I knew exactly how she felt too. I missed her more than anything in the world. I'm not used to having her away from me for any extended amount of time. Even after almost three years of it.
