Lilly had just closed another case, another senseless murder. This time it was a man whose wife murdered him and left his body in Kensington...
She closed it two weeks ago but the memories kept haunting her.
Kensington, the bad part of town. The part of town that held bad, horrific memories for Lilly. It was where she grew up with her alcoholic mother. The area where bad things happened to her. Bad things like when she was ten and her mom sent her to the store after dark. She wanted to forget but the memories kept popping in her head. Lilly jumped as her thoughts were torn apart by a knock on her door.
She quickly stood up and walked down the hallway to the door. There to her surprise stood her new partner Scotty Valens.
Scotty couldnt believe his eyes, Lilly looked even more gorgeous than he had expected. Her hair was stick straight and ended just below her shoulders. She wore a red tanktop that contrasted with her skin tone and made her blue eyes look unseemingly blue and black shorts that made her legs look as long as could be. When he looked up at her face he immediately sobered. He cleared his throat and spoke softly as if to a child, "Lil, can i uh come in for a second?"
"Sure" Lilly said softly with a sad gleam in her eye. She causiously let him walk past her and into the livingroom. "Want a beer?" She asked. "Yeah That would be nice." He muttered, realizing he'd need all the courage he could get in order to talk to her. Once she was back in the room two beers in hand did he resume his nervous habit of avoiding her gaze.
"Lil, are you okay? Somethings been off about you and I can't tell what. Talk to me." Scotty spoke loud but gently. Lilly looked stunned. She really hoped no one had noticed but they did. Scotty did. "I... I don't know if i can talk about it." Lilly stumbled over the words as she opened her beer and took a big swig.
"Lil, please? Talk to me." Scotty shifted his gaze to her as he spoke. Lilly cringed, she really wanted to tell him, but would he handle it well enough? She felt this odd compulsion to be honest around him. "Can you handle it? If I told you" She said soflty her blue eyed gaze looking directly into his brown eyes.
"Lil, i can handle it." Scotty whispered honestly. Lilly took a deep suddering breath. As she began to speak she almost couldnt keep the tears at bay "This case in kensington reminded me of something from my childhood. When I was ten My mom made me walk to the store after dark to get her some beer..." Lilly drifted off as the tears she had been holding back came cascading down her cheeks.
"Lil" Scotty bgan as he moved toward her. "You dont have to tell me if you don't want to."
"I need to. My mom is an alcoholic and she was back then too. She sent me to the store and on the way there a man jumped me. He yanked me into the alley. He... he hit me over and over again and raped me. When it was over he broke my jaw. I was only ten years old." She broke off sobbing.
Scotty launched into action and began hugging lilly. "Lil, I'm so sorry." She just sobbed harder and harder in his arms. She had finally confessed about this horrible thing to the man she had a crush on. "Lilly I have something i need to tell you." Scotty whispered. Lilly peeked up at him tears still flowing down her face but going slower and slower as they dried up. "This may not be the right time to tell you, but... I love you. You're amazing, smart, funny, and beautiful." He whispered as he looked at her with admiration.
Lilly froze. Had scotty really mean't that? She looked up into his eyes and saw the truth. He really meant it! Instantly Lilly flashed a huge smile. "I love you too Scotty" She whispered wide eyed.
They kissed and held each other all night long.
The end.
