Right on Time

I am anxious; the dream from earlier tonight is lingering on my mind. I know I need to leave, as I look out toward the rising sun. All of my stuff is packed, Appa is ready, and all I need to do is tell Zuko (I have been in the Fire nation for a couple of weeks for peace and trade conferences.) that I am leaving early. I hesitate as I am about to knock on his bedroom door, I don't want to wake him but I need to. "There is no need to knock, I am already up Aang." I turn and face him and I can feel my eyes soften as I look at the sleeping two year old girl in his arms.

He looks at me and shrugs, "Ursa couldn't sleep, and Mai needs her rest. Her pregnancy is harder this time around, so I took Ursa for a walk and she fell asleep. Is everything okay?" "Yes, it is Zuko, but I need to leave." "Hold on Aang, let me put her into her bed then we can finish talking." He quietly opened the door steps inside and a moment later he comes back into the hall where I am nervously pacing. He shuts the door and says, "Let's walk and talk." As soon as we start to walk, I blurt out, "Zuko I need to leave, the sooner the better. I had a dream last night that told me that I need to be at the Northern Air Temple where Katara is." "Aang you are aware that there is still a whole weeks worth of meeting left…is Katara hurt?" He asks with genuine concern. "I don't believe so, but I feel in my heart that I am meant to be with her right now. I say. "Well then…" he says, "Looks like you need to go then. However I will be sending messenger hawks daily." "Thank you for understanding." I say as we bow to one another. I turn and quickly walk to the front of the Fire Nation Palace where Appa is waiting to take me to my Katara…my home….

After two long hard days of traveling (with short sleep breaks) the light of the full moon illuminates the Northern Air Temple in the distance. As we come closer I can see the lone figure standing outside waiting. I can feel my heart's irregular beating slamming against my ribs because I know exactly who it is. As Appa lands I see that she has a blanket wrapped around her. I chuckle quietly to myself because the blanket can't completely wrap around the entire swelling of her stomach. Looking at her my heart is overflowing with love, I seem to say this a lot but I have never seen her look so beautiful. Her hair is down, flowing around her while the moonlight seems to highlighting her stunning blue eyes.

I quickly jump off of Appa's head and land next to her. She smiles as I embrace her, as I tenderly pull out of our hug, I can't help the urge to kiss her. With my hand I take her chin and guide my lips to hers. At this point my soul feels lighter then it has in a couple of days. As I pull away from her I say "Hello my beautiful wife." "Hello my handsome husband." She says as I kneel to the ground and put both of my hands on her swollen belly and I kiss it twice, a kiss for each of one of my children. As I stand up her blue eyes look deeply into mine and she says, "I just knew you would make it back in time, we were waiting for you."
