So, this is my first fanfic and I really hope you enjoy it. Forgive me for the short chapters.

Chapter 1: The Sun Rises

"Nicky! Time to wake up!" Mom calls from downstairs. In the haze of waking up I'm wondering why Mom is waking me up after school is out. Isn't summer my time of 'rest and relaxation'. Then it occurs to me. Today is the day I start my Pokémon journey! I hurriedly dress myself in clothes I laid out yesterday before going to bed, grab my carefully packed bag and run out into the living room.

Mom is sitting on the couch, flipping through channels on our T.V. She has Blonde hair, very much unlike my own brown. I smile and hug her before she speaks, "Nicky, you better be careful on your journey. Don't battle any wild Pokémon that are too powerful and call me whenever you get the chance." Don't worry Mom," I answer to appease her, " I'll be careful. Don't worry." I then hug her again before walking out the door.

I'm walking down the street, breathing the "fresh" air of Jubilife city. Soon I'm joined by my friend Max Hobbs. Where I'm dark haired, quiet, and sarcastic; Max has bright red hair, talks enough to kill a Chatot, and has a more joke and pun focused humor. We are complete polar opposites. "Nicky! I can't believe that we finally get our own Pokémon! I've never been so excited for something in my whole life!" I roll my eyes and realize that it will be a very long walk to Sandgem town.

After a long walk and nearly Nine-Gazillion words from Max later we finally arrive in Sandgem town. We are in awe at the sheer number of Pokémon all over the place.

We see no need to stop in the Pokémon Center for directions as I already know the way to the lab. We arrive and walk down the front drive and up onto the porch. I knock on the door and a lab assistant quickly appears. "Ah, you two must be the new trainers-to-be. Professor Marcs mentioned you. Follow me."

Max and I hurry to follow her down one of the lab's hallways and quickly emerge in a large room, full of machines and computers. We gaze about in wonder as the assistant leads us to the center of the room, where a brown-haired, scruffy-looking man is bent over one of the many computer terminals. "Professor, you have company," the assistant says to him. Professor Lucas Marcs looks up and his face splits into a large grin when he sees who is there. "Nicky!" He says happily. I grin as well, and return the greeting, "Dad!" I say as I rush over to give him a hug.

I haven't seen Dad in two weeks since when he left on a trip for Kalos. "Sorry I haven't gotten to go home yet kiddo, I pretty much just got back and I'm still analyzing the migration habits of Pyroar. But back to business, you still need to get your Pokémon." He then realizes that Max is there. "Oh, sorry, you too. Max? Isn't it?" "Yessir," Max responds. Dad chuckles, "I like you kid. Well, let's go." He leads us to a different part of the room, where there's a machine with three labeled Poke' Balls inside. "Take your pick." Max grabs a Poke' Ball and presses the button in the center. "Let's go! Turtwig!" He shouts as he releases the excited looking turtle Pokémon. It snuggles up against his leg. I then picked up the Poke' Ball which held the Pokémon I've always wanted to get. I too press the button. "Go Chimchar!"
