Afterwards
Leaning slightly over him she wiped his face with the cool damp cloth. "It will be alright," she said, "you're safe now." Being careful of his wounds, she bandaged him up as best she could without injuring him further.
"How did you get to me?" he asked softly. "That thing, that vampire, was guarding the entrance."
"The Turok-Han is dead I killed it myself." Seeing his slightly confused expression she elaborated. "Giles said that the UberVamp was really called a Turok-Han. Stakes may not have worked, but good old decapitation did the trick." She said with a slight smile. Leaning back slightly she looked him over to see if he had anymore injuries that needed tending to, not seeing any she got up and put away the first aid kit. "Are you alright?" She asked him, putting her hand on his shoulder gently when she walked back in front of him.
'Yea, I've been bloodied up worse than this pet. Remember your old friend Glory? She did a worse job on me than they did."
"How did you manage to hold on? It must have been terrible."
"You told me you believed in me."
"I do."
"I believed in you I knew that you wouldn't let something happen to someone you believed in." He paused briefly, "Even if the thing you believed in is a monster."
"Was a monster." She said looking at him, "You aren't a monster anymore. You've changed remember." She paused and smiled at him. "You even went halfway around the world to earn back your soul just to prove it."
"That's not why I went pet."
"But that's what you ended up doing."
Chuckling slightly, then grimacing from the pain he replied, "Yea, I guess I did, but it wasn't totally by choice."
"Yes Spike, it was. The demon read your wish from your heart, you may have not totally realized it, but it was you choice, and you did want it." She paused looking at him, and gently brought her hand to his face, "And you have no idea how much it meant to me that you were willing to go through all that for me. The trials must have been hard, demonized trials like that, especially when they grant something so amazing and special, must have been hell."
"It was." He said softly, barely daring to speak, not wanting to break whatever spell had been woven over the two of them, "But we both know I would do it again for you."
"I know." She replied softly looking into his eyes, "I know."
With that she leaned forward slightly and gently brushed her lips against his for a few seconds before pulling away.
"I love you. It took dying, living, having you leave, having you back in my life, you almost going mad, and almost losing you to the enemy for me to realize it, but I love you."
Spike stared at her in amazement, barely daring to hope that this was real, that this could be real. "I love you too."
They smiled at each other, kissed gently again, neither wanting to push things, especially with Spike so hurt. When they pulled away she got up and walked away. "You need to rest." She told him, "And I need to go pick up some blood for you, rest and blood will help you get stronger faster, an I'm sure we both want that." With her back turned, she missed the look of shock, that faded to amusement, but she did hear the slight laughter come out of the vampire's mouth. Shaking her head and laughing under her breath at herself she sighed and said, "I have to say I never thought those words would come out of my mouth, especially to Spike."
AN: Well that's the end. It was my first fanfic so please review, I'll accept all reviews, flames or congratulations. I hope you all enjoyed it.
