I've been dying to write a Pan Am fic since the pilot, but inspiration hasn't really struck until now. I haven't forgotten about the SG crew, but I need to get into the swing of writing again. Here we go!

Dreams of Flight

Little Colette Valois watched the goose-stepping soldiers as they marched down her street from her hiding place. They were mean spirited men she knew. She remembered seeing them strike Mme. Morel when she refused to greet them with "Hiel Hitler!" The soldiers invaded her country and took what they wanted. Anyone who did not agree with them was killed, the neighbor girl, a few years older, told her. Colette believed it. It had been years since her mama and papa had kissed her goodbye and left, tearfully promising to send for her.

If only she could be like the birds and fly away. She would go somewhere safe. Maybe she could fly to mama and papa. Maybe she could fly away to a place where people wanted and loved her. If she could fly, the little girl told herself, she would be happy. Yes, everything would be better if she could fly. It was really too bad she was born a girl and not a bird.

….

Colette: "Oh, this would make me very happy."

Dean: "Yeah?"

Colette: "Yeah."

Colette: "I'm flying?"

Dean: "Your dream comes true."

Colette: "I'm flying!"

And for Colette, her dream truly had come true. Not only for those brief seconds had she, Colette Valois, flown the plane, but she was safe, happy, and wanted. Some dreams really did come true.
