Chapter: 1
For as long as I can remember I've been an outcast. And for what? For a single choice I didn't even make. I've lived in a cage my whole life, been experimented on, and I have wings! I was bird boy. (However, enough about me, how's your life?) Then one day I escaped. Not just me but 5 other bird freaks. They were like me and for once I didn't feel alone, I finally knew there were others like me.
We flew and we ran. Not stopping until we were sure we were safe. We finally stopped at a small, abandoned house. After successfully picking the lock, we each found a place to sleep. I don't know how long I was asleep, but when I woke up I was starving. My stomach made a loud rumbling sound. 5 heads turned to me, and I gave out a brief chuckle.
"Who's hungry?" I asked hoping to save my self from embarrassment.
"I am!" shouted a cheerful girl. What could she possibly be happy about? Her skin a rich chocolate color; I guess it was safe to assume she had African decent
"Ditto," the voice was mostly a whisper. Lucky for me I had raptor hearing. The voice had come from a boy, his hair black with red highlights. He wore all black, there were what looked looked like cut marks on his arms.
"Alright, everyone split up and search for food," I said trying to sound like a leader. About half an hour later we all met up in the living room. We managed to find some chips and a 12 pack of sodas. I poured the chips on the floor and split them into six mini piles; one for each of us. It was quiet while we ate, so I decided to break the silence. "If we're going to be living together we should know one another. My name is Ultimum," I announced. I motioned to the girl next to me to. She brushed her brown hair out of her blue eyes.
"I'm Sarina," I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach, not hunger. Was I attracted to her? Impossible, I don't even know her.
"Blake," said the boy with red and black hair. Blake then went back to scarfing down his chips. I turned my head to the girl of African Decent. She didn't say anything.
"What's your name, sweetie?" asked Sarina in a voice soft as velvet. There I go again. What's wrong with me? I don't even know her.
"I don't have one," she said.
"Come up with one," Sarina said soothingly. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.
"I guess you can call me Artemis," I finally turned back to the last two kids. They both had red straight hair, and freckles covered their faces and arms. They were twins:one boy, one girl.
"I'm Alex!" Shouted the boy.
"And I'm Lexi!" Shouted the girl.
"Okay, now that we're acquainted, finish your food, get some sleep, and tomorrow we'll practice flying," Yeah I said flying. Remember, we have wings!
"Who died and made you leader?" asked Blake in his hushed voice. I was about to answer, but he cut me off, "Never mind." And with that he flopped on the couch; his back to the rest of us.
"See you all in the morning," I said, yawning.
