"You stupid no good little worthless girl." my mother screamed at me. Don't worry she has been yelling and hitting me since I've been 5. After my dad died; since he would keep her from me.
Let me tell you about myself. Trying not to sound conceited right now. My name is Rain Misery Blue. Yes I know it's a weird last name, but it's my dad's last name. I have long black hair, which goes down to my elbows. Green eyes that are brown in the dark, and a large smile that almost never comes out. I live in District 12 with my mother Mary Lu. My best friend is a small little girl named Prim. She is beautiful, not to sound like a creeper. She is the only person that accepts me; I just need to make sure my mother never knows about her. One more thing I'm a mute, ever since I was little. I have said a word, never made a sound. Also my mother changed my name, to nothing.
"Say something!" she screams at me. I look at her blackly. Today is reaping day. My name is in it 52 times. My mother wants me to die without killing me.
She goes to grab a picture to throw it at me. I just get up before it can hit me and leave the house. Katniss should be gone by now to get something for reaping night. I can go see Prim and their mother.
I leave my mother screaming and shouting curses at me as I leave. I walk to Prim's house and knock on the door.
"Who is it?" I heard their mother say calmly. I just knock three times hard to let them know it's me. I hear Prim yell in happiness. She opens the door quickly and hugs me tightly. I wrap my arms around her smiling a little bit.
"Prim let her in," Prim's mother says. I smile weakly at her. "Do you need any bruises treated?" she asks. I shake my head no.
"Mom can I show Rain the flowers I planted?" Prim asks her mother. "Go ahead," she answered. Prim grabs my hand and runs to the back. There is a small portion of yard with yellow daisies. I sign to her that they are cute.
"Thank you," she thanks. "Rain I'm scared." she says in shaky voice. I sign to her that I know and I am too. I take off the necklace that my father gave me. I put it on Prim. Here with this you will always be safe, no matter what. I sign to her.
I see Katniss and Gale coming back from the woods. I get up point to them, and then wave saying good bye. I should get dressed soon for the reaping.
