Magus awoke, as the small dish popped through the hole at the base of the
door. He had watched the dish pop through every day for 3 weeks, and today
he pushed it back. "I'm not eating until you tell me who you are."
A voice grumbled, and then retreated. Magus put his head in his arms.
3 weeks he had been locked here, eating soup and wondering about the identity of his captor. Now he was worried he would die, and even though he had a choice, he was sick of the game they were playing with him.
Finally the voice returned. "I'm going to give you a loaf of bread with meat and potatoes. Oh, and broccoli too."
Magus looked at the plate as it slid in. It looked delicious after only soup for three weeks. He poked it. "No. no. Tell me," he said, wincing as he pushed it back.
"I'll make you anything you want. It should only be another week before I can let you out."
Magus' willpower was weakening. "Even pancakes with hashbrowns, and bacon?"
"Yes, of course" the voice promised.
"I. can I have a newspaper too?" Magus asked, realizing the voice was female.
"Yes, but you must hide it when you hear my husband approach" the voice explained.
"Oh, alright. Thank you." Magus said, and soon he had eaten his meal and turned to the newspaper.
He gave a little cry when he saw the headline.
Magus Mcnichol Feared Dead
Magus Mcnichol, adopted son of Albus Dumbledore, was kidnapped 3 weeks ago today. Dumbledore fears the worst. In 7 days, Magus will be declared officially dead. Tomorrow Albus will be stripped of his title of official guardian, and Schala and Janus Mcnichol will be put under the care of Lucius Malfoy.
Magus shouted out. "No! If I'm not out of here by tomorrow." He hid the paper.
Tomorrow came. Magus looked at the new newspaper in horror.
New Guardian
Schala and Janus Mcnichol have been placed under Lucius Malfoy's care. Albus Dumbledore only hopes that Magus is alright, and realizes he was not the ideal guardian.
The door crashed open. "MAGUS!"
It was Schala. She hugged Magus tightly. "Schala, how'd you find me, I."
"Mr. Malfoy was holding you, Magus. No idea why."
Magus stood. "Malfoy."
Schala looked at Magus. "Magus, he says you have to be a Slytherin, and we have to."
Magus nodded. "Tell me later. I haven't seen the sun for three weeks."
Schala gasped. "They just. kept you? Magus."
"What?"
"There are no locks on this door."
"You're KIDDING!"
"No."
"Jebez tapdancing khrist!"
"You never checked?"
"The door looked locked. I was sure I tried it. Once."
"Well, maybe it was a dream."
Magus shrugged. "Maybe, could be. Yeah, I'll bet you're right."
"Magus, I know you want to see the sun, but Mr. Malfoy wants us to become."
Magus stopped her. "No, Schala. Sun first. Even through a window. Then news." He ran up the stairs and opened a window. "Glorious." He took a deep breath. "OK, so what's toad face want?"
"Magus, he wants us to be death eaters!"
A voice grumbled, and then retreated. Magus put his head in his arms.
