A dull pain pounded through his temple as the light from the florescent bulbs shown through his closed eyelids. Slowly he opened his eyes as he sat up, through blurred vision he saw Mikage, her back turned to him as she took a phone call.
"...Yes I'll let him know..."
He closed his eyes again and rubbed his them, the pressure easing his growing headache. The last thing he remembered was Yuusei being announced as the new Duel King. At the thought his face contorted, and his free hand came down hard on the bed rail.
"Damn." He cursed and craddled his arm, still fresh with cuts from his ungraceful ending as King.
"Atlus-sama?" Mikage turned around after placing the phone back in its craddle. "Atlus-sama!" She looked at his arm, his wounds reopened. "Are you okay?"
He winced as he laid his arm back down next to him on the bed. "I'm fine." His gaze became locked on her. Under his harsh glare she flinched.
"What is it?"
As the medication began to losen its grip on his brain his emotions began to flood through him. His brow knitted together in confusion over this feeling of sheer fear. "Did Yuusei ever come visit?"
She let out an inaduble gasp as her hand went to cover her mouth. His eyes grew large and glossy as she shook her head. "No, Atlus-sama, I'm sorry."
The last of the medication slipped away, opening a gate to a plethora of emotions. The tears that began to fall from his magenta eyes were a mix of sadness, anger, and fear. He closed his eyes tight to force the tears to stop, fisting the bedsheets in his hands until his knuckles turned white. "Yuusei..."
His head fell back on the pillow as his grip losened on the sheets. His eyes rolled back into his head as his eyelids slipped closed. "Atlus-sama!" She looked over to the heart monitor, even if she didn't understand it, there was no noise coming from it. That must have meant he was okay.
She turned around as the door opened, a man Jack's age stood in the doorway.
"Yuusei..."
