Authors Notes: Hello! This should be my first story posted on here. Also, this should be my first work that I wrote in the Warehouse 13 fandom. So... It was written around a year ago. Cool. Have fun reading! -S.R. Wells
Disclaimer: You've all heard it before. I do not own Warehouse 13 or its characters. I only like to write with them for personal enjoyment.
"Just try a library, okay!" a dark haired woman with a ponytail said harshly to Pete as Steve walked in.
"Man, is it hard to park around here!" Steve said a little out of breath as he walked quickly to Pete's side.
The woman in the flannel shirt with the glasses crossed her arms a bit awkwardly at her conversation with Pete being interrupted. "Hi, can I- can I help you?" she said with some awkwardness.
Steve was stared at her for a second. He almost felt as if his gaydar was going off for some strange reason.
"This is Steve, my new Myka. Steve, the old Myka," Pete briefly introduced Steve to Myka, sounding a bit unhappy about it.
"Oh," Myka seemed a little bit shocked.
"Oh," Steve echoed as he realized who this was.
"Oh," Myka said once more, a little bit speechless that this was her replacement.
"Right! Myka. Hi!" Steve said with some charm.
"Hi," Myka said flatly. "So, I take it he's," she gestured with one hand at Pete, looking down a bit awkwardly, "mentioned me."
"No, not really…" Steve said a bit awkwardly. He looked at Pete for a moment. Was he afraid of mentioning his ex-partner? And for what reason? He looked back at Myka for a moment watching her face fall slightly, tears springing up in the corners of her eyes. Steve thought back to the feeling he got with his gaydar, while Pete muttered some stuff. Was Pete afraid to tell Steve that Myka was a lesbian? Because Steve was perfectly okay with that. Actually, he was gay too, so he really had no reason to be hateful to the woman in front of him. Then again Pete didn't know that… Now, wasn't the time to get into that, however. "We need your help," is what Steve chose to say instead.
Myka's lips were pursed for a moment, and then she bit her bottom lip. Her watery eyes darted back and forth from Steve to Pete. For a moment, Steve thought she was going to speak and have her voice crack. She merely closed her eyes for a second while she said strongly and clearly, "Fine. What do you need?"
"Really? You'll help him?" Pete said slightly miffed.
"Pete," Myka said sharply. Steve was starting to feel a bit more awkward now.
Pete groaned and rolled his eyes.
Steve got right to business. He was surprised when she hopped right onto what the first victim said. He realized that she must be really brainy and an expert with books. He was even more surprised and impressed when she quickly realized what the artifact was and proceeded to tell them about it, even through Pete's questioning and childish behavior. She had practically solved their case in thirty seconds. Steve was upset that he had quite obviously hurt this Myka person's feeling for no apparently good reason. He couldn't resist telling her that Pete was lying. She gave him a happy smile and for a second seemed nostalgic. Steve quickly headed out of the bookstore with the stuff he needed.
After Pete finished talking to Artie about Steve felt the need to say something. He opened his mouth, but he wasn't sure what to say. For that matter, Steve wasn't even sure if Myka was gay. He paused and decided to talk about Buddha and other stuff with Pete. Maybe if he hinted a bit he might try to get more information out of Pete…
