Blade was trotting through Ponyville as an orange unicorn stallion with a green mane and blue eyes.
His female Dragonpony friend, Draco, was trotting along beside him. Her scales shimmered silver in the noonday sun.
"Why is everyone looking at us like that?" she whispered to Blade. Anyone would be able to tell she didn't get out much.
"They think you're some strange hybrid pegasus pony," Blade responded, his voice low and gravely, instead of teenaged and happy.
"I am!" Draco narrowed her eyes and spread her dragon wings.
Blade stopped and glared at her. "You look like an enraged cockatrice."
Draco squawked like a cockatrice and galloped off.
Blade rolled his eyes. Green flames flickered to life on the ground around him, forming a perfect circle and startling the nearby ponies. Soon, he was engulfed in green flames.
When the fire died down, a Changeling with an orange mane and orange shell was standing within a ring of ash.
He smiled and charged after Draco.
Five minutes later, Blade and Draco were side-by-side in a race through the Everfree Forest.
Draco pulled ahead and disappeared into the undergrowth. Blade followed easily and, when he saw his Dragonpony friend, skidded past in wild attempts to stop.
Draco was staring at the sky, her mouth wide open in surprise.
The item of her attention was an enormous building in the sky, with several chimneys-no, smokestacks coming from the top. It was supported by clouds. The steam billowing from it colored the sky with every color in the rainbow.
Blade scrambled back to Draco and followed her line of sight. When he saw the building, he immediately turned and ran.
In his panic, he tripped over a vine and was thrown into the air, straight back over the clearing where Draco was.
He landed in an iron net that released a charge of electricity into his Changeling body, causing him to pass out.
The last thing he heard were Draco's screams as he was carried into the sky towards the flying factory.
