Real Keys
Josh follows Donna to her hotel.
Spoilers for season 7, The Cold.
Josh/Donna (Josh POV)

I'm in one of those, 'what just happened?' moments again. Donna gave me her room key, at least I think she was giving me her room key, but then Rhona and Edie decided to be helpful and give it back to her. Why the hell did I have to hire helpful staff?

Okay, give it ten minutes, just so that the others don't realize I'm chasing after Donna ... Ten minutes is a long time, give it five minutes. Oh to hell with it ...

"I see you guys tomorrow," I casually say as I stand up and go to leave the table.

"You only just got here," Rhona points out - helpful and observant!

"Yeah, I've got stuff to do," I reply. You think Donna will mind me referring to her as 'stuff'?

Okay, get a cab and get to her hotel. Wait, what the hell was the name of the hotel? And why isn't she staying at the Marriott like the rest of us? Capitol something, yeah that was it. Capitol what though? Oh God how many can there be. Possibly more than there are cabs. Where the hell are all the cabs? Ahh, Capitol Grand, right across the street, excellent.

Okay into the elevator and up to her room. Floor number? Damn good question. Back to the reception desk and find out her room number.

"Hi, I'm looking for Donna Moss, can you tell me her room number?"

"No, Sir, I'm afraid we can't give out guests room numbers. I can call her for you."

"See I wanted to surprise her," What am I saying?

"Yes, Sir. That's why we don't give out guests room numbers. Would you like me to call?"

I nod and he dials. I give him my name. He gives me the room number. I imagine Donna climbing out the fire escape to avoid me.

Okay, back in the elevator. Seventh floor. What if I misread the signs? Surely even I can't misread someone giving me their room key. What if she didn't give me her room key. Maybe Rhona and Edie were right and she just forgot it? Seventh floor, here we are and there's her room.

Right, before I knock, I need a plausible work excuse to be here, just in case I completely misread the signs - which is very likely. Oregon, polling in Oregon, that'll do.

Donna's smiling as she opens the door, which must surely be a good sign. "Hey, I didn't know if you'd come." She sounds nervous, which is also good because I'm actually shaking here.

"I tried to get the key, but it seems I have helpful staff. I'll be firing Edie and Rhona tomorrow," I tell her.

"Good. Do you have idea how long it took me to find a hotel that still uses real keys?"

Is she mocking me? Who cares. I have to ask though, "So it's okay that I came?"

"Yes. I thought maybe, after last night ... But then I wasn't sure. Was it just the moment, you know, excitement over the numbers?"

i shake my head, take her hand and lead her into her room. "You have no idea how long I've wanted this."

"Then let's not wait any longer."

And suddenly we're kissing again, and this time we are not going to interrupted by anyone.
