She was doing that thing.
Lately, Rikku would stare into Paine's beautiful crimson eyes for a long period of time, without saying anything at all, which is very un-Rikku like.
Paine was starting to get a little agitated by this action. Not really the whole 'being awkwardly stared at by her girlfriend for a long period of time' thing. No. it was the whole 'how Rikku would lie to her face' thing.
Whenever Paine would casually ask Rikku why she staring at her – "Is there a reason why you keep staring at me or should I just assume you've gone brain dead?"
To which Rikku would reply to, very uncomfortably, playing with her braids with a slight blush on her face – "A-haha. I was just admiring your beauty," or, "Ah-hehe, I was just thinking about how much I loved you," or, Paine's personal favourite, "Ah-hahe, I was just sleeping with my eyes open, don't mind me."
Rikku was never good at lying.
She knew why she was staring at her. It wasn't very difficult to figure out. Well, maybe for Rikku, but she's different. Extremely different.
She knew that she was thinking about him again. She was always thinking about him whenever she stared into her eyes.
Him, with his strong body, hidden good looks, and short vocabulary. Him, being Rikku's first love all those many years ago, despite being dead. He was just that amazing. More amazing then Paine could ever be. Of course, Paine would never admit this. Nope.
How did Paine figure this out? Well, she was a genius, of course. Ok. That and because Rikku was a sleep talker. She would mutter his name in her sleep all the time. More than her own girlfriend's.
I guess you could even say Paine was a little jealous. Well, maybe. Paine wasn't really sure what she was feeling most of the time. She never felt these feelings before. Whenever Paine felt something she didn't like or trust, she would just, kill it or something. Paine didn't think she could kill this though. She thought of killing him, but he was already dead. She didn't think it would work.
Paine sighed. She was tired of Rikku's excessive staring.
"What's your reason for staring this time?" she would casually ask again, waiting for another lame excuse yet again.
"I wonder if behind those glasses of his, his eyes was as beautiful as yours." Rikku accidently muttered. As soon as those words tumbled out of her mouth, she quickly covered her mouth with her hands, her face burning bright red. "Ahahaha, I mean, I-I was just staring at your, um, beautiful eyes. Yeah! That's it!" Rikku tried to cover up, but failing miserably. Rikku would always fiddle with her braids whenever she lied. Which is what she was doing right now.
Paine just stopped. She didn't know how to react. It was like the world just stopped in its tracks. Until Paine blinked and had the faintest smile on her face. That sent the picture reeling again.
"You know, you never were good at lying."
