Cosette walked down the street, angry tears filled her eyes but she would not let them fall. She didn't know how long she walked for but all she could think of was the awful scene that she had walked in on. It swam around her head, making her cringe every time she saw herself walking through the door. In that split second Marius Pontmercy had managed to erase all of her other memories of him, of their relationship. All she could see was him with her. HER! Of all people why Eponine Thenardier? She didn't even want him to stay friends with her after what she and her family did to her all those years ago. Marius was the one who convinced her that Eponine had changed and now she knew why he had made her believe that. She had even started to think of Eponine as a friend. What the hell was she thinking? Cosette felt hollow. It was like Marius had reached inside her chest, ripped out her heart, stomped on it and then tried to fix her with a cheap waterproof plaster. "It doesn't mean anything! I love you Cosette! She's just a…friend." His desperate words resounded in her already swimming mind.

The tears continued to sting but he had taken everything from her, she didn't want to give him anything else. Cosette walked in circles, her phone ringing continuously at the bottom of her bag. She ignored it, just as she ignored where she was or where she was going. She continued on blindly but as the image of Marius and Cosette entered her mind for the millionth time she realized that she had to vomit. The more she tried to stop it from happening the more it became a certainty. Thankfully she managed to the next corner but once there she could no longer contain it. She could refuse him her tears but she had no control over my heaving stomach. She retched and heaved until her stomach was empty, and as she wiped her mouth with a crumpled tissue she had found in her bag she realized that she had given Marius the last part of her, it laid splattered meaningless on the pavement. Searching yet again in her oversized bag she found a fluffy, discarded piece of gum, but it would have to do if she was going to face him. Popping the fluffy piece of gum in her bitter tasting mouth she went to face him.

Cosette pushed open the door cautiously, stood in the doorway and had to force herself over the threshold. She walked through the hall, poking her head into all the rooms, she avoided the bedroom, swaying again as she pictured Marius and Eponine together in their bed. The little slut had wisely left their house. Good move on her part. She steadied herself against the door frame, took a deep breath and walked into the dining room. Marius sat slumped on one of the wooden chairs; his brown hair matted to his head and tears in his eyes. She looked at him with distaste. He glanced at her hopefully but refused to hold her gaze. Cosette pulled out the chair opposite him and sat down. It didn't take her long to decide what she wanted to do. Standing up she pushed the chair back in, walked to the door, opened it and said, "Get out!" Marius began to cry.
