Jack suddenly woke from his bed as he heard the sound of horses and gunfire; he sprinted to the porch. Stood before him were about seven outlaws. He then ran back inside and woke his father, John. "Dad, dad wake up there are men with guns out in the ranch there burning the barn" Jack shouted as he burst through the door.
"Where's your mother?" asked a concerned John
"Uhh she told me about fifteen minutes ago that she went to feed the horses" said Jack
"Boy you stay here take the knife from the draw and if any of them come in, don't hesitate to kill them" John told jack as he was reloading his revolver.
John rushed to the silo and took cover behind it. As he looked on he saw the sun rising behind the hills, and the men with revolvers and fire bottles in their hands. The men were wearing tattered clothes and each man had a hat with a red piece of fabric running along it, John knew who they were...The Walton gang.
He peered his head around the side of the silo to figure out a plan on how to take out the seven men. He then realised what to do, he dashed to the porch and took cover, pulled the hammer of the gun back and shot three of the men in the head. The other four turned around and started shooting at him. As two of the gang members were in a gunfight with John the head of the posse crept silently into the house...
Jack heard the door to the house open and he quickly picked up the knife and climbed onto the bed lying in wait. The door to the bedroom suddenly sprang open and jack looked at the man. the man glanced back for a split second, only to be pounced on by jack. They both crashed onto the floor and jack grunted in pain. Luckily he was the first to get back up, he took this opportunity and stabbed the man in the throat. He then stared at him, watching the blood slowly pour out of the man's mouth and make a pool of it around the mans neck. He picked the rusty gun up, surprised at the weight. He ran out of the house and to John's side. They looked around and they saw seven dead men and the wreck of their barn.
"Dad did you find mum" asked jack with an anxious face
John suddenly realised that the screaming he heard must have been his wife's and ran to the barn and started shoving the rubble to one side in a rush. His expression changed suddenly as he found Abigail's body lying in the middle of the barn scorched and with a bullet in her chest. Jack slowly came in to ruins of the barn and stared at his mother's corpse, John ran over to him and gave him a hug.
