Pain relief
challenge word: numb
He was drowning, losing all sense of himself in the sea of misery his mind had become. Waiting for that damned pill to take effect and numb the nightmare which had taken control of his aching head.
A warm, familiar hand on the back of his neck steadied him, grounding his soul. He felt himself sink forward, head coming to rest on leather.
Soothing words, spoken so softly that they didn't add to the agony that was still building behind his tightly clenched eyes.
"Get some rest, Sammy."
The next morning the physical pain was gone.
And so was Dean.
