"You... you're still smiling?" Kyokutei asked, conveying his shock by his tone of voice and expression. Mayonaka visibly tensed at his words, flickering her eyes over to him before sighing heavily and flashing the middle Hiitori a halfhearted smile. Kyokutei looked even more taken aback, and it looks like the people around him seemed to feel the same too, judging by their stunned body language.
"Well, nobody really cares if you're miserable so you might as well be happy," she shrugged nonchalantly before her smile turned bittersweet and a lot more genuine as she leaned back into the chair. "Besides, the stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget." She quoted casually, as if this was an everyday occurrence.
"I..." Kyokutei didn't know how to respond for that so he settled on questioning her wisdom. "When did you become so wise?"
Mayonaka blinked before her trademark devilish sly smile appeared and she smothered down a snort of laughter in favour of answering his question. "I am wise because I've been foolish." Her infamous smile quirked up her lips and stayed there as Kyokutei gaped at her, this time not bothering to hide her chortles of amusement.
