Chapter One - New

He held her hand tightly, trying not to watch the pain splayed across her face. He knew the pain would cease before long, but he still hated that it was there at all; he hated that he was the singular cause of it.

"Ginny, one more try, all right? One more." He said softly into his wife's ear. He brushed the sticky wet hair from her eyes and kissed her forehead.

"You said that half an hour ago you lousy pillock!" He grinned at her swear and held her hand tighter.

A few minutes of screaming and pushing later, the pain ended. He saw the pure joy on her face as the Healer walked over with a tightly wrapped bundle. He slid onto the bed with her and held her back. The Healer looked about to reproach him, but saw the way she snuggled into his chest and reached forward for the infant. Who was she to tell him that he could not enjoy this moment with his wife?

"Oh Draco. . . it's our little girl." Ginny whispered, her eyes watering. Draco kissed the top of his wife's head and looked at the tiny face peering from the pale pink blanket.

"Diana Rose." Draco said. Ginny craned her head up to look at him then slowly looked down at her daughter, pink cheeked, blonde hair, and the softest brown eyes.

"Diana Rose Malfoy." Ginny whispered.

"Yes, Ginny. Our something new." He told her. He looked to the chair next to the bed where his wedding clothes were strewn and to the door where the bag with her handmade dress hung. Then back to the brilliant young woman who was his and the wonderful little creature in her arms.
