Bittersweet Goodbye

A shadow falls

From high above.

Death arrives

To claim his prize:

A picturesque Angel

Silently in prayer.

(I can only watch…)

Cold steel runs

Clear through her form.

No cry escapes her lips.

Her blood flows

Like a raging river

As Death smiles,

Admiring his work.

With one fluid motion

He removes his instrument,

Stained in crimson innocence.

And Death flees.

She slumps over,

Laying to rest

In the red pool

That once coursed through her.

I fly to her.

Falling to my knees,

I cradle her close.

A face so pale,

Yet hauntingly at peace.

Liquid soaks into my clothes.

(I am covered in blood)

The body is cold, so cold.

She is already gone.

(Oh gods…)

I would die

A hundred thousands deaths

For just one chance

To have saved yours.

But that chance has fled.

It left with your soul.

I am left

Holding an empty shell.

So goodbye, sweet angel.

Until we meet again.

(Her blood is on my hands.)

A/N:  Well folks, I again want to thank those who reviewed for their kind words.  I shall now share with all of you a few thoughts I had on this poem.

First of all, I want everyone who reads this to think back to the first time they played FF7.  Try to remember how you felt the first time you saw this scene.  I can honestly tell you that I felt tears in my eyes in spite of myself.  I always loved that scene, so I had decided to write this poem.  I also like to use metaphors, hence the use of Death and Angel to represent Sephiroth and Aeris.

Everyone mentioned the last line.  And I actually put a lot of thought into that line.  I really like to use duality in my writing.  Did everyone catch both meanings?  There is the obvious literal meaning that he has blood on his hands.  And the other message I wanted to convey in that line is the guilt that Cloud felt about not being able to save her.  Her blood is figuratively on his hands because he blames himself.

Anyway, for the third time, thanx for the reviews!
