Naruto does not belong to me... (unfortunately...)
This is my first Naruto fanfic so...
Prologue-
Dark clouds covered the sky. Rain poured heavily over the barren land, mixing with the spilled blood. It seemed fitting- like the earth itself was mourning the casualties of the war. Pieces of rubble littered the ground, the only remnants of the small village that had once stood there, an innocent bystander in the battle between Leaf and Sound. The killer intent that filled the air could be felt from miles away. Two figures stood on opposite sides of a giant crater, both panting heavily and disheveled.
"So it's come to this, eh?" The blond chuckled humorlessly through his heavy breathing. He was barely holding on from the overwhelming pain and exhaustion sweeping over him. His trademark orange jumpsuit was charred and ripped, splotches of blood staining the worn material. His eyes were a bright red orange tint, the stretched pupils resembling those of a fox. His whiskers were even more clearly pronounced than usual, and the Kyuubi's chakra ran through him, mixing with his own.
The Uchiha was not much better, equally, if not more, drained. His attire was worn, and his shoulder was bleeding severly. His- or rather, Itachi's- Mangekyo Sharingan was activated, the crimson pinwheel spinning in his eye. Despite his use of the curse seal, the Sharingan was still draining his chakra reserves immensely. The black patterns covered his left half, giving him an, almost demon-like appearance. Ironic, considering who he was fighting.
"You could never beat me, Naruto, and you never will." He sneered. He should have ended this fight earlier- what a waste of time. He had to end it soon or he would collapse from chakra exhaustion. Sasuke started to channel the energy into his hand, preparing to use his signature technique. He couldn't let himself lose to this weakling, the dead last, his rival.
"I'll never lose to you, you bastard!" Naruto screamed. This was it. He couldn't let himself lose to that traitor. He had destroyed everything precious to him. Kakashi-sensei had been killed by his own technique. Sakura had been caught in an explosion in the medic tent, drained of chakra. Tsunade-baachan, Ero-sennin, the Konoha 11, and so many more had died because of him. The destruction of Konoha, his precious village, his home. "You will pay for what you've done!" He focused on the blue chakra in his hands, ignoring the searing pain that spread through his body.
"Chidori!"
"Rasengan!"
The two attacks clashed, and the area exploded, stirring up a large cloud of dust and deepening the already profound hole. And when it had cleared, both shinobi lay still on the ground, unmoving and lifeless.
The sound of clapping cut through the silence in the clearing. A figure emerged from the shadows of the trees, chuckling sinisterly.
"Well… Wasn't that entertaining." Gliding over to the center of the crater it examined the scene.
"Looks like nobody won. What a waste…" It noted, clearly amused. A malicious glint appeared in its eyes. "Hmm…I wonder…what if…." A flick of its hand.
And in the next second, the whole world ceased to exist.
