A/N: So this is pretty sad. It does deal with character death so if you don't want to read this don't read it.

Magnus had expected more time. He wasn't ready yet. He would never be ready, but that wasn't important. Magnus, blessed with the gift of immortality, had forever. He never wished for time to go more slowly because, let's face it, he had all the time in the world, and more. Yet, Magnus Bane still found himself lying in an empty bed and waking up alone.

It all started with a simple "hello" from a little boy with dark raven hair. He couldn't be more than ten; the softness of childhood still clung to his face, making Alexander Lightwood look positively adorable. Magnus's gaze lingered on the little boy reading to his sister for a few moments as he continued to create the portal. Magnus portaled back to his flat, his mind still resisting the urge to forget about Alec.

"Is it weird to watch your lover grow up?" Magnus asked, speaking to no one in particular (except possibly Chairman Meow, who sat on the arm of the couch with a detached air). The empty apartment contained few decorations at the moment; Magnus was trying more simplistic renovations, which, he decided were not doing it for him.

With a snap of his fingers, Magnus brought in a modern red couch and loveseat, and mahogany end tables. A few elegant lamps appeared above them, flooding the room with warm light. Abstract paintings covered every wall with bright colors.

"That's better," Magnus said, putting the Chairman back onto a couch cushion. The cat meowed with disapproval.

"I wasn't asking you," Magnus said.

As Magnus lay awake, that night had never seemed so long ago. That night he had expected to be able to watch his lover grow old (or at least older). This was not what he had planned at all.

"How is it that humans are so fragile, but so easy to love," Magnus whispered into empty space. "They are so breakable, but destroy your heart so quickly as they perish. "His last moments with Alec coming alive in his mind, playing with each of his heartstrings. Blood covered Alec's face and part of his chest, too much blood. The boy's face turned pallid, making Magnus almost think him to be dead, but no. His chest still moved, but barely. The pulse spot on his neck emitting a weak throbbing, as if his heart had already given up. So much blood.

Now blood covers Magnus's hands: Alec's blood, demon blood. He tries to stop the bleeding, tries to heal his young lover. He almost thinks it's working, lets himself believe it's working. There's so much blood.

"Magnus?" Alec whispers, his voice hoarse and his breathing shallow.

"I'm here, darling."

"Promise you won't leave me?"

"I promise."

"But you sound so far away."

"I'm right here. I'll always be here."

"I love you, Magnus."

"I love you too, Alexander."

A/N: I'm sorry. But thank you so much for reading.
