Catastrophically Yours.

Pairing: Ryella

Rating: K+

A/N: I decided to try my hand at Ryella for once. I've never really written written it, so I thought this would be an opportunity to try! Oh, and, the only reason I'm posting these stories is because I'm using them as fillers before I post "Lola". So, yeah.

Disclaimer: It would be near impossible for me to own anything.

Things can disappear instantaneously.

Ryan Evans has learned that lesson too many times before.

So he knew that Gabriella Montez's friendship probably wouldn't last.

As she held his hand in hers, Ryan never wanted the moment to end. Her fingers gently caressed the palm of his hand, and her head rested on his shoulder. He could hear Sharpay's voice screaming in his head, Gabriella Montez and the Wildcats?! Mother, how could you?!

True, Ryan was definitely not his and Sharpay's mother, but he knew that if Sharpay were to find him sitting her with Gabriella at poolside, she would say the exact same thing, replacing Mother with Ryan.

"What're you thinking about?" he could hear Gabriella say.

"Sharpay. Unfortunately." he replied.

"Ryan, relax. She's not here, and even if she was, you're your own person. You can make your own decisions." Gabriella looked up at him.

Ryan knew that. He was a big boy now. He could make his own decisions.

So he kissed Gabriella. It was impulsive, and he regretted it almost instantly. However, in the midst of his regret, he noticed something.

Gabriella was kissing back.

He broke away awkwardly, staring at her intensely. Her eyes were alight with laughter, and her mouth was twisted into a slightly bemused expression. "You know, Ryan. You're a good kisser."

"Oh, thanks. But, Gabriella...why'd you kiss back?"

"It's a friendship kiss. Instead of friendship bracelets or necklaces, we have a kiss. I don't think anybody else has that. Do you?" she explained, and Ryan laughed.

"Definitely not."

Gabriella squeezed his hand, and they were silent.

Ryan was oblivious to this fact, but Gabriella hadn't just given him a friendship kiss. He didn't notice the blush that had creeped onto her cheeks, or the giddy school-girl crush expression on her face.

Gabriella had given him a genuine, 100 percent real I like like you kiss.

She was scared that their friendship would wilt away to nothing, and she would never have the chance to tell him that as soon as she broke up with Troy later that night, she would want to give Ryan a hundred more "friendship" kisses, and she would never have the chance to tell him the one thing she had always wanted to say to a boy.

Whatever happens...we'll be okay.

:) So, what do you think? I actually liked this one. Ryella is pretty intriguing to me!
