A/N not mine, I own nothing.

based on the song Halleluja by David Cohen.

Happy Birthday Margaret! Here is some happy fluff for you!

Hallelujah

I heard there was a single cord...

That David played to please the Lord,

but you don't really care for music,

Do ya...

Well it goes like this the fourth the fifth

The minor fall and the major lift.

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

hallelujah

He had given up years ago. How he wished he could give her everything that she deserved. She didn't deserve the shell of a man that he had become. She deserved someone who could give her every part of them, and no less. He was broken...he was a broken hallelujah.

He could save others...that is the penece he must pay. He can not have a life of his own, his soul was to damaged. The song continued to play on the radio.

She tied you to a kitchen chair

She broke you throne

She cut your hair

and from your lips she drew a hallelujah

hallelujah

He made his way up to her apartment. He had to watch her sleep. This was his hallelujah... his peace, his solace.

This was when could lose himself in the memories of their times together. The deal, Hawaii, the porsche, and the kisses he stole behind the bonds office.

This is when he could believe that he could marry her and watch her grow round with their children. This is when he could let the blank face go, and let his heart shine through. She is his hallelujah.

He watched her begin to stir. She rubbed the back of her neck. Even in her sleep she could sense he was near. A small smile played upon his lips.

She slowly woke from her deep slumber; knowing he was there.

"Ranger," she whispered.

"I'm here, Babe," he replied.

"Lay down with me?"

He stood and simply removed his shoes, weapons and shirt. He climbed up into the bed and pulled her close.

He inhaled her scent and kissed her curls. He knew that he shouldn't be here with her. The darkness within him would ruin her light. Yet, he couldn't stay away. She kept him from selling the last tiny bit of his soul.

"I love you," she said into the darkness.

"Babe," he sighed.

"I just wanted you to know that. You balance me out, Ranger. You keep me grounded. Every time I see you, I think hallelujah, he's here and he cares. Someone really cares about me. When you're gone I am broken."

They lay entwined with each other. He kept replaying her words over and over in his head. It dawned on him; he was her hallelujah as well. He was her forever, her peace and solace.

They were yin and yang. Phoenix and Koi. They were peace and war. Without one the other couldn't exist, not fully.

He needed her like the air he breathed. Nothing else mattered. If she was gone from his life...it would be over.

"I love you, Babe."

She stiffened at his words, waited to hear a qualifier. After a few minute, when none came, she relaxed back into him with a sigh.

"Hallelujah," he whispered.
