Prologue:

It was during the dead of the night. The darkness was oppressive and suffocating in the dark forest. The silver light of the moon barely penetrated through the thick canopy of leaves. It was so quiet that you could hear your own breathing. Through the silence, a whisper could be heard from under the dark and twisted limbs of an old oak tree.

'You… are my descendant. You have eyes as blue as the sky of my home-world. A world that you would have never set foot on for it is now but a desolate land. You shall be the last of my kind. I shall leave you here under this tree for you are the cause of my misery, the burden I wish not to bear,' the voice was that of a woman but cold and bitter. There was a sound of clothe rustling around the dried leaves and twigs on the forest floor.

'May I not see you again. I regret nothing.'

The voice faded away as the speaker left the area. There came a soft whimper from the bundle amongst the tree roots which soon quiet as the night wore on and the air became colder but at last cam a soft thudding sound of paws against dirt lowly made its way toward the bundle. It was a lion with golden fur. He was proud and strong - a truly majestic creature. Warmth seemed to radiate from his body in wave. He sat on his haunch, looking at the bundle of clothes and the new-born baby that lay inside it. His eyes were full of warmth and love as well as deep intelligence and power.

'Your life will not be forfeited this night, young one. You have a long future before you. You may be born here, but for now your destiny lies elsewhere. For your own protection, I will send you to another world where you will learn the meaning of love, trust, family, and friendship, and then when the time is right, you will return here to your true home. Be kind and be strong, little one. We will meet again,' the lion rumbled gently. His voice was deep and soothing. He gave a small smile as the baby yawned and went to sleep in the save aura of the great lion.

'Sweet dream, little princess,' he blew a warm breath over the bundle and then all was darkness.
