A/N- Not!angst, actually brought by me. (I know, weird.) Inspired by lisacharly/HotPinkCoffee's prompt 'romance is dead (gen) - Animorphs, main six, board games' from comment_fic. (She is possibly the only one that will- hopefully- get a few of the in-jokes in here⦠Mainly because we've touched on games/Risk before, and game titles are fun to play around with. Hopefully it's not only funny in my head!)
Warning: Silly foreshadowing/vague character trait references ensue!
~ Go Fish ~
As part of a semi-official "Introduce Ax to Human Pastimes" initiative, they take turns bringing games over to his scoop on off mission days.
Jake brings Battleship first, and Ax is confused why a target, once hit, would not attempt to relocate itself. Also, he questions how archaic the technology the game is based on is, since firing random shots in hope of hitting a target is needlessly ridiculous, even for humans.
Rachel snags the police officer job, highest paying salary, "Build a Better Mouse Trap," and "Family Horse Wins Derby" (among other LIFE cards) when it's her turn to bring a game, but she also finishes first and has to spend the rest of everyone else's game waiting for them at the finish line. When Cassie, a doctor with a $30,000 yearly salary, finally reaches retirement last, Rachel ribs her for taking so long.
Cassie does, however, excel at Sorry, and Tobias schools everyone at both Trouble and chess (it turns out he was holding out on learning a vast amount of killer moves while riding the thermals of the nearby park over a pair of retired chess enthusiasts that play near his territory three days a week), but it's Marco's choice of game that Ax takes to the most once the concept and specific rules are explained to him. (After the fifth time he annihilates everyone else at Monopoly, though, the board mysteriously disappears back to Jake's attic.)
Rachel suggests card games next instead and pouts when no one will play against her at War until Marco offers to Egyptian Rat Screw her as an alternative⦠and then she gives him a dead arm for his cheek.
