Takes place during the episode "Moonlighting."
On My Own
The guttural roar of Rex's hover bike was the most noticeable sound in the residential district as he rode thru the streets of Brooklyn. He ignored the stares and looks of displeasure from the street's residents as he continued searching for his query. His neck ached from whipping it back and forth as he checked each space between houses and apartment buildings.
"Come on," He gritted his teeth in frustration as he reached the end of the block without any sign of the EVO. He stopped at a red light and sat up. "Leon has to be here somewhere," Rex said using the name he'd given the messed up lizard EVO he was currently hunting.
A city bus rolled passed with one of the EVO-Busting ads strapped to the side of it. Rex, Rombauer and Lansky had big grins on their faces and were giving the camera two thumbs up. Rex watched the bus sailed by with a frown and forced himself to focus on the street lights. Some business deal this turned out to be, Rex thought bitterly. My partners are nowhere to be seen.
Rex revved his bike as the light turned green and continued down the next block.
Why is it my fault they couldn't handle working with me? If they had been up to scratch with how awesome I am, it wouldn't have been so easy for me to take over as leader anyway. So, really, it's Rombauer's fault for not being an effective leader. Rex reasoned. He cursed at himself as he realized he had gone down the whole block without actually looking for Leon and made an illegal "U" turn to double back up the street.
Rex made it halfway when he noticed a street lamp flickering quickly followed by the blinking of its neighbors. The light made Rex pause, it was only midday and with clear skies there was no reason for the street lamps to activate, unless something was messing with the electrical grid.
Rex itched to call Noah. If there was anyone Rex wanted by his side as he searched for Leon the Giant Acid Spitting Lizard it was his favorite human Noah Nixon. Rex slowed at the thought, what he really wanted was Six and half the active Providence Agents, but that ran the risk of Rex getting into trouble for going rouge in the first place. Rex decided that he would call in the cavalry only when he absolutely had to and not a second before then.
Looks like I'm on my own, Rex frowned and continued down the street.
I wrote this over a year ago and always told myself that I would turn this into a longer story; it never happened. But I like the images that this conjured so I am posting it as it is. I hope that you are able to enjoy it too!
